YT 1000 Club Member | Cute but scary tooo. http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...m_2007/bat.jpg I was at work today and I see the maintenance guy messeing with something that looks like a wet leaf. So I go to the door to see what he is doing and this bat pops up off the ground fly a foot and crashes to the ground. So I open the door get as close as I can with my Phone and snap the pic. Then I go back inside. Well I start thinking what if the pic is too small to tell what it is. So I go back out and just as I am getting into a closer position it pops up and is flying towards me . I turned and ran for the door. Thankfully noone was around to see.

| Bats are very beneficial. However, this year there is an abnormal amount of the bat population as well as the skunk population that is carrying rabies. Please be careful when disposing of any that are found dead, or that are lying around not moving, as they may still be alive, just sick and able to infect. Rabies will effect the neurological system and the brain, and the animal will behave very different than normal. So if you see any animals with disturbing behavior, notify the Animal Control in your area. |

| I'm glad to read that some of us know bats are beneficial creatures! I echo the advice to be careful. That sounds like a sick bat to me! |

YT 1000 Club Member | Thank you all for the concern, I do want to point out that this bat was not sick he was just very tired from being chased out of the appartment building with a broom. He did indeed fly away and found a place to rest undisturbed til nightfall.

| Glad to hear that the batty situation is resolved. What a cute little dude - thank you for risking life and limb to snap a pic to share with us. I absolutely LOVE bats - they are awesome to watch in the dusky evening hours. I thank them every night for eating those nasty mosquitoes. On a more serious note, please be very careful about coming into contact with a bat that is flying about during the day or is acting unusual in any way. If the health department found out that you had been in contact with one then there is the much over-rated rabies issue. I can tell you from experience that they will scare the socks off of you and make you believe that if you don't receive the rabies vaccination series that you will surely die a slow and painful death. Several yers ago bat was in our barn on the floor of the washroom and after talking with the over zealous health department employee I made a quick decision to capture the bat and relocate him outdoors where he would be safe from the head hunters.
