| Opinion Please: Bible & Drinking Too Much I would like your opinion on something. I would appreciate your replies to a minimum, as no to complicate the post, and to keep it on track... I have a friend who drinks way more than anyone I know in my life. Matter-o-fact, I'm familiar with alcoholism because many friends and family I know died due to alcohol related medical conditions. My friend had a sick way of twisting the Bible's quotes and meanings to fit his lifestyle. Whenever there is a sentence or verse that conflicts with his lifestyle, he'll find a way to make it sound like it doesn't reply to him or say it in a way that means something entirely different than it's meaning. Please keep in mind this usually ONLY happens when it is a verse that conflicts with his drinking. I CORINTHIANS 6:9-11 pretty much states that a drunkard shall not enter the Kingdom of God... or another way... they will not inherit the Kingdom of God. I guess there are several verses about wine and strong drink, etc, things that are not so positive about drinking. Regardless, would like to keep this very simple and short... Do you think if a person spent too much time in their life engaging in drunkenness, like what the Bible mentions, that they will receive everlasting life?... or inherit the Kingdom of God? If it's possible, a Yes or No will suffice, but I know it's not that simple, so please reply as you feel necessary... keeping it short please. Thanks, Matthias |

| I believe that if you accept Jesus as your savior, you can be forgiven for anything. I have done a lot in my life, but I know God loves me no matter what. I really hope your friend can get on track and get close to God so he can get fulfillment through that instead of the alcohol. Sorry, I just couldn't do yes or no. LOL Must be VBS this week!

| I am still working on the Mystery of my Faith. You can be a drunk and a good person. If someone can prove there is a heaven, then I would vote yes. Then again, there are no atheists n an Artillery barrage, I can guarantee you! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I agree with RoscoesMommy42. Jesus came for the sinners, none of us is perfect in God's eyes, and he will make us into the person he wants us to be, but it may not happen overnight. I really believe that it's important to look at our own weaknesses and not dwell on the weaknesses of others. Your friend probably feels guilty about his drinking, and I think he should be reminded that God loves him regardless. I believe the Bible is the living word of God, and we should always pray for wisdom in it's interpretation, so little quotes here and there to prove a point seem to be a petty use of God's word. So Yes is my answer, but his life here on earth might be Hell.

| I'm not sure if this thread will be deleted or not since sometimes this type of thing turns into a debate, but I will just post what I believe. While there are verses about not being drunk with wine and the one you were referring to about drunkenness, Galatians 5 also mentions this. However, the concern isn't just drunkenness, but also envy, strife, etc. It says those who do these things (the word do there means to habitually do something, not just one act) shall not inherit the kingdom of God. So then it's a matter of the heart. There is a verse (that I can't find right now) that says only God and the man know the thoughts of a man's heart. So my answer to you is yes, it is possible because only God and your friend know what is going on in your friend's heart, and besides He will have mercy on whom He will have mercy and compassion on whom he will have compassion (Romans 9:15). Hope that helps.

| Well, his drinking is an illness. I don't believe God will keep you out of Heaven based on an illness. I truly hope you aren't standing there in judgement of your friend. He does not need that, he needs help. JMO.

| An alcoholic will always come up with excuses to justify their behaviour

| I mean no disrespect to the OP or anyone who has posted, but, I thought two things that we are not allowed to discuss on YT were politics and religion?

| A sin is a sin. If you believe that God forgives sinners you can't specify which ones. An illness is an illness. If you believe that God shows compassion to the sick you can't specify which sickness. If the Bible was written as the Word of God to be given to man to be interpreted by each individual as God deems needed for that man/woman's spiritual needs, you can't argue or second guess that particular God given interpretation. Forgiveness is Forgiveness.
