no - a good protection will keep it running smoothly - there's just so many things nowadays that will mess up your computer - one program now isn't enough. I just got malwarebytes and deleted my a-squared - it found one problem but I'm having puter issues so will be running more scans tonight

i do think you need the ones mentioned if you want protection - as I said - one good program will not pick up all - so you need multiple for the different things that affect the system.

I looked at malwarebytes and I'm going to download it tonight. I also went with AVG because I already had it on the pc, just need to update it. The last thing will be getting spybot or adaware installed, which I will probably do tonight, too.

Does everyone mainly use the free versions of these programs? Is it worth upgrading and paying the annual fees?

Spybot is one I wouldnt do without ! Also - a real time running program will block threats - I found AVG is very good

I have a pay program that works great but didn't install it - a friend did and I wish he didn't cause when it runs out after a year - I'd have to pay

I'd def go back to AVG - never had a problem with it - just turn on auto updates so you are always current with definitions !

I already had AVG on and going (it initially found a few things - nothing major). So last night I installed SpyBot and then Malwarebytes. Malwarebites found 7 things that hadn't been detected previously - 2 Trojans (not sure what those are?) and 5 ad type things.

I feel so much better now that I have all that in place.

GOOD ! Trojans are not good

also trendmicro housecall will be a good one to run after you do all the above - been using that one for years too - it finds AND fixes what others miss and is safe. My cable company turned me on to it years ago and its all over the geek sites as a good online scanner....some of those programs will scan but want you to pay - Housecall does it free

Oh, I missed that one. I thought it was something you used only when needed - like a repair type thing. So I need to download that one and have it running along with the others?

it is something you use when needed as a back up - it works great for me - picked up stuff my other scans missed and my IT guy also referred it the other day and he is all up on the good programs


You'll find its good - been using it for years and years now and was impressed with it - it comes highly recommended as a onine program - vs the other online programs that find stuff then make you sign up and
