![]() I have been bitten by quite a few dogs just running or walking. As a small kid, I was bit by the neighbors Mutt, and a Beagal. In the Marine Corps living on base in Officer Housing I was bit by a Chow and a English Setter just running in the neighborhood. Several years back a small Rat Terrier bit me. Walking the neigborhood now there are a few Goldens that would bit but are chained. I beleive a lot is the breeding and the owners. Pits were breed to be dog agressive, but NOT Human Agressive. If they ever bit their owner in the old days, the owner would put them down. Most love humans and would never bit, that is why they are not good at Personal Protection and watch dogss. They would welcome the burgler and show him the good stuff. They are not for everyone, as mmost Mastiff's are not either. The Cane Corso takes a owner willing to socialize, socialize, socialize, and train of you will have a 130 pound liability. But they are great with immediate family. Mine is great with everyone, but out eat they are now gaining the reputation as the "Pit Bull Killer" and BYB's will eventually ruin the breed. Most pits and great, a few are bad, but usually it from how it was raised, and the breeding. I would own a quality Pit anyday. I have seen a few bad ones, but mostly good ones. Why do some Yorkies try to bit and some do not? Sure, they can not so a much famage like a Large Breed cane, but they sure try. WHat were Yorkies originally bread for? Going after rats and mice in tunnels. That takes courage and tenacity, and the ability to tear something apart. I do agree that all dogs should be on a leash and not running loose. Why in NY there is a pack of ATTACK beagels running loose that will actually kill a person.

you said what I wanted to say - I'm scared of them too.... I'm careful of ALL dogs when walking my girls - I may be overprotective but have read too many sad stories about small breeds being attacked so I pick mine up all the time when I see any dog.....even small breeds - I introduce my girls VERY slowly and hold them on their leash up against me in case the other dog wants a bite out of them.. I know people always blame the breeders and owners of agressive dogs but in reality - we never really know what triggers them to attack other dogs....sometimes I feel it's just instinct but then I'm no expert that's for sure | |

![]() I would never own a Pit with another animal. They are animal agressive, most, not all, but the ones that are not, are not standard to the breed. It is hard, if not impossible to train them not to be, but most, the majority, vast majority love people. Would I have one with the Yorkie? No way. Our Yorkie is actually the Alpha over the Cane Corso....she bits him, and he go's to the corner and sits. That would bring out the fight instinct in the Pit. If I did not have another dog, I would consider a quality bred pit as they are great companions, can hike, run, great at Agility, and clowns. Any dog can bit!

![]() * I believe that the overall behavior of any dog, any breed is a result of breeding, socialization and how the dog is trained and controlled by the owner. * Any dog can lash out in a random act of aggression, regardless to how they are trained. We can only understand so much that goes on in the mind of our pets, and we never know when something is going to startle them, catch them off guard, hurt them unexpectedly and cause them to react negatively. * It does not surprise me at all that some of the breeds on the list of most dangerous are not the ones you'd expect. It was a black lab that attacked my daughter. The workers at the hospital told us that the majority of the dog related injuries they treated were from labs, which I did not expect, but know now. * I don't really care one way or the other if someone expressed their dislike over Pits, or any other breed for that matter. However, generally speaking when someone posts a thread looking for support because their 6 year old child was just attacked...that is NOT the place to start a debate about ANYTHING. For crying out loud, in a case like that bite our tongue and take your disagreements and opinions elsewhere. Allow people to read comments of support and comfort that they desperately need instead of having to weed through petty bickering. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 04-03-2010 at 08:37 AM.

Probably overshadowed by the 40 gang shooting in the past 40 hours in the city of Chicago. ![]()

![]() Goldens were especially over bread after the "Bud" movies. THey used to be great. We had the best one for 14 years. Now, I would not own one. Anytime there are movies, dogs become the flavor of the year. 102 Delmations caused a lot of BYB for the money. Look at all of the Taco Bell Dogs now...they are actually flying them out of CA to find homes for them in other states. I hope they never make a Yorkie Movie!

![]() <<<<<<I can't even believe that someone posted to her thread with a comment about how she needed not to be on the computer and be tending to her emergency! ![]() That was me that said that, and I am sticking to it. Waiting, trying to get a ticket, etc, the last thing I would think of is that I have to get on the Forum and post a message. But that is just me, and others are free to do what they want. My wife would not have waited for me, she would have been gone, walking if she had to. Maybe if you actually lost a kid in an accident you would realize that. Then again, maybe not. I hope her son and the dog recover completely.
