Pit Bull haters are not IN-sensitive! I am tired of YT members finding anywhere necessary to stir the pot. Pretty sure if you were hurt by this breed you would not be a fan of the breed. Let me just say it hacks me off that you would say we are insensitive. Nothing was wrong with people showing frustration with Pit Bulls. When IN FACT everyone offered their concern and prayers FIRST! I even started a thread about a neighbors Pit and how he is always loose and he came towards my husband. I believe, they can not be trusted. You can cuddle your Pit Bull all day long, but dont expect me and others to like them. I have seen first hand the damage of a Pit, I know someone who is missing part of their hand! I am a full time Pet Sitter who has TRIED to work with the breed. I dont believe there is a more kind Pet Sitter in my area who has tried MORE than me. I made the decision to no longer try to work with them because they are aggressive. Do your homework, the majority of deaths by dog attacks is by a Pit and Rott. I also know the majority of bites are by small dogs. I know you say, Pits can also can be sweet dogs, I have heard you say it. BUT, I still dont trust them. So, keep them on a leash and in their own back yard. They have no right running free. I honestly pray, I honestly care, and I honestly do no like Pit Bulls. Don't insinuate my opinion for the breed is lack of sensitivity on my part. Very rude! |
Nobody insinuated anything except on a prayer thread it is not right to post opinions about the pits, can't you understand that ? You have every right to your opinion and I fully understand it. Just cause we don't agree doesn't make what you feel or think about pits wrong, but yes it is wrong to post opinions on a prayer thread when you know it will start controversy, period. That's fine. You are 100% entitled to your opinion, I'm not gonna try to convince you otherwise. I don't know who you are aiming this thread too but I do feel it's important to get some things out there for guests and other members who come and read this thread. Knowledge is key, and it's always good to learn new things. There are dog statistics done every year by the ATT (American Temperament Test Society). Anything above 80% is good. APBT got 84.3% last year. Collies got 53.3%, Chihuahua 70.3%, and the list goes on. Now I'm not stupid enough to realize that these dogs can certainly not do as much damage as a Pit or any other strong breed. Clearly they are strong dogs with a lot of power. Who made them that way? Humans!!! Humans created this breed, and now humans want to destroy them. I also want to point out that a "Pit Bull" is actually not a breed. There are many different kinds of them, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire, etc. So it's not really fair when people name "Pit Bull" as #1 most aggressive breed. It doesn't make for fair statisics. Besides the fact that thousands of people are bitten by small dogs but I'm sure it goes unreported. The most important thing to know is that when they were bred in Europe, before coming to the US they were bred to fight. When a dog was born with a human aggression gene it was killed. They bred the dog to have animal aggression not human aggression. They make the best pets for young children and families. This is fact. These dogs do NOT have a a knack for turning on their owners for NO reason. There are owners who get attacked for failing to properly train their puppies from day one. There are warning signs that most dogs give, and pits are no different. Quote:

Just like some Yorkies act like vicious little attack dogs, and others are so loving and cuddly. okay this is really terrible its okay for you not to like them but think about the people you meet in your life that you protest against them so much and then when they go to the pound one more dog gets put down because they are afraid because you tell them they are a bad dog there is no bad dog just bad owners i walk dogs and i have to say that a well trained pitt is the easiest dog to walk they stay beside you with the group and never stray away because they are trying to protect everyone even a untrained pitt is fine they hardly pull because they want to please you the only problem i have ever had with pitts are people who see us coming and start to scream before we can reach them there by scaring the dogs i have to say i do not own a pitt bull but if i did not have 7 dogs 6 of them under 12 pounds i probably would |

And, let me say that I do not own a Pit Bull and would not own a Pit Bull nor a Rottweiler or a German Shephard and any other dog on that level. The reason is simple, just like it takes a certain person that knows the breed to own a Yorkie (Ie the potty training issues they have, amongs other things) it also takes a special person that knows the bully breeds, the shephards, and the Rottis. I myself do not have a strong enough personality to keep an upper hand in having a well behaved larger dog, but I think it's unfair to punish the breeds when in most cases it's how they were raised. And, no offense but you use the word stirring the pot, but what do you think your post is going to do. Sometimes it is just better to keep your oppinions to yourself (In both cases) and not post them on a forum where you know things will get heated. Just my .02. Elaine |

When I saw the very first post offering an opinion, along with their concern, I had hoped the pit discussion would stop right there. I know you weren't the first to post an opinion on the thread, but each one that posted after the initial post, was just feeding the fire. Soon, what was requested to be a prayer thread turns into an ugly debate. My only point was - someone's prayer thread is not the place for debating the controversial pit bull. I'm glad you decided to open a new thread and hopefully the debate will take place here and not on that poor woman's prayer thread. |

I've been bit by one & Still love the breed It was not the dog it was the way he was raised i don't judge them all, I know a few That are more loving than my yorkie. JMO |
I have never been bite by a pit bull but I do fear them. Maybe little dogs bite more often but they bite, they do not tear you apart! That's the difference. I think anyone wanting to own one should go through some sort of training first to evaluate them to see if they have the qualifications that it takes to train them. Look up any shelter, pound etc and you will see there are more pit bulls in them than even mixed breeds. There has to be a reason for this. Normal people can not handle them. If you breed them you know them and how to handle them but for the average person this breed should should not be taken lightly. They can be dangerous. It's a know fact. Some counties do not allow them in. If your caught you get fined and they take the dog or you have to re-home it out of the county. I know Fla. is one state that has counties in it that will not allow them in. I know there are good and responsible owners but that does not make this breed trustworthy IMO. I feel sorry for them because of the lablel that has been attached to them but rightfully so. . |

That being said, there were a couple of guys that brought two American Pitt Bull Terrier puppies (12 weeks old, and I'd say about 15 lbs) into the dog park the other day. The dogs were still just babies, really, and not at all aggressive, really sweet. They didn't play rough, and were a bit slow (I think due to their stocky proportions), my dog was running circles around them. The guys (who were the breeders) said that the dogs were $2500 because they were Gottilines, which has had the drive bred out of them. They are also very short and stocky compared to the average "pitt bull." I googled "gottilines" and I don't care for the look of that line, but it is good to know that there are people out there that ARE trying to do something right with the breed with regards to temperament. And, I don't care WHAT kind of a dog you have, sweet or aggressive, pure-bred or lovable mutt, no dog should be off-leash if they are outside of a fence. Even if you have the sweetest dog in the world, it is just too dangerous for the dog. |
