| Ugh!! I have to get a dental crown! I've been having sensitivity for a little while and at my normal check-up yesterday, the xray showed a few hairline cracks! So now I'm waiting for them to send info to my insurance, so I know how much this is going to cost me! My question for anyone who has had a crown, what type did you get?? My dentist was mentioning the different kinds, so I'm curious what you got and how it's turned out?

YT Addict | I have two crowns. They are made of porcelain and they cover the entire tooth. They look real. Don't worry, it doesn't hurt THAT bad. However, the temporary one they put in tastes nasty for the week it is in there. Regarding the cost: Once dentist charged me 200$ with my insurance, and a different one a few years later charged me 56$ with my insurance (same plan and everything). Good luck! I hope I helped you a little bit.

| I got a new one that is white and made out of zerconia (like cubic zerconia)....this is new material that they are making them out of. The porcelin ones have to have a metal underlay and the zerconia ones don't have an underlay and are thinner. You will like it...you will be able to eat with no sensitivity anymore.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have about 10 crowns. Really bad teeth and since my DH just retired I have no dental coverage!! yikes. Most of my crowns are porcelin fused to metal. They last a real long time. They don't really hurt much it just takes time to do all the prep work. My last crown was 800.00 and my Insurance at the time paid about 60%. Good luck.

| I have 7 crowns, I think. I had very weak enamel as a kid and even though I visited the dentist every 3 months (instead of 6), I always had cavities to fill. As I got older and stopped getting cavities, my teeth got weak where there was so much filling. My oldest crown is about 20 years old and is still doing great. I actually have one molar left that isn't crowned and just the other day a piece of the filling fell out. He's already re-filled it once about a year or so ago so I'm thinking the dentist is going to want to crown it. The process is not that bad, it's the $$$$ that kills me. With my insurance right now, my cost will be $300-400. Sucks! Oh, and all of mine are porcelain. Good luck!

| Thanks for all the feedback! My dentist mentioned an average cost of $850 and that most insurance cover 50-60%. It sounds like that could be the case! I'm hoping that it will be under $500 my cost! I can't imagine having 7-10, I feel so bad for both of you having to go through that and have to pay out that kind of money! My dentist mentioned gold or the porcelain over metal. He said the porcelain over metal looks like a regular tooth and is still very strong. That's probably the way I will go, depending on what my insurance says. I hate going to the dentist, ugh! I really like my dentist, he's a super nice guy! I just hate it! I will have to ask about the zirconia, I've never heard of that!

| I have a crown on my tooth... I had to get a root canal when I was 17 and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Mine just looks like a regular tooth, it's all white now and they match it to the color of your tooth. I've had 2 cavities in my life and 1 turned into the root canal. I wanna say mine was also around $800, and probably 50-60% of insurance covered it but my dental insurance sucks.

| i have a couple of crowns, i don't really pay attention what kind i get, i go to a good dentist and i trust him, but he is very expensive even with insurance so it really sucks. but i have pretty bad teeth so i really need a dentist i can trust plus he specializes in pain-free procedures, i am a BIG BABY when it comes to pain. anyway, one thing i would recommend to you is that make sure you get the kind of crown that you are not allergic to. my dentist told me that they used to use a certain type of crown a lot but then a lot of people turned out to be allergic to that type of metal material. (like it will irritate their gum) so just ask about that and try to get the one that most people aren't allergic to. and you also want to ask how long that type of crown will last you. you want to try to pick the longest lasting crown. good luck to you!

i have a lot of cavities, big ones, so i am scared to go to the dentist, i found this guy because he deals with people who are scared of dentist, and focuses on pain-less treatments. hehe. most dentists don't like to take that much time to inject the anesthetic, they do it faster and it really hurts when they do it that way. when they inject it really slowly while messaging the tissue around the injection site, it makes such a big difference!!!!!!

| I'm really scared of the dentist but luckily my brothers best friend is a dentist now so I go to him and I finally figured out that Novicane doesn't work for me so we use Articane on me and everything is great. I think that's why I was so scared for so long because they would give me Novicane and it didn't work and the dentist would tell me I shouldn't be able to feel stuff that I was feeling!! If you have that problem I HIGHLY recommend Articane...it's wonderful and works great!

I've never heard of Articane. It's really the feeling afterwards that I hate! Having my mouth numb for hours on end!

| Yes, my mouth has been expensive! But those 7 crowns have been over a period of 20 years. Other than one of them having to have a root canal before the crown, I've had no other issues. I really like my dentist too. He's very gentle when giving the shots and let me tell you, the numbing stuff they put on first has GREATLY improved since I was a kid! My kids had to have a couple silver crowns on some baby teeth when they were little and they never even realized they were even getting a shot. They thought that the numbing gel he put in their mouth first is what made their whole mouth numb. That's pretty good.

| I had to have my first crown about 5 years ago (I'm 58). When my dentist asked me what type I wanted, I asked him which type was best - he said gold (it was for a back tooth). When I questioned him a bit about it, he opened his mouth and sure enough he had some gold crowns. So that's what I got. My granddaughter who was 8 at the time thought it was the coolest thing that I had a gold tooth . I've since had another crown in the back on the other side and I got another gold one. Of course, if I had to get one that showed when you smiled, I'd get the porcelin. I haven't heard of the zirconia type! My portion of the insurance was about $450.

| I have one crown, it's porcelin I believe (it was years ago and I didn't really pay attention!). It looks and feels like a real tooth, so no worries! It's the root canal that sucks (if you have to have one!).
