Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | 24 Hour Bug - Is there really such a thing ? Hey there - Quick Question - My son became really sick yesterday - I took his temp at 6 after I got home and it was over 100 deg. I just myself got over a horrible case of the flu where I was sick for 3 weeks and am kind of worried I'd catch this too....He works in the service industry so he's around all sorts of people... His symptoms were throwing up etc - and mine was the real flu but I can't afford to catch anything else.....by 10 pm his temp was normal and he wasn't sick anymore but my question is - Does a 24 hour 'bug' really exist ? |

| I have heard some say that there really isnt a 24 hour bug , that often times it is due to tainted food and its our bodys way of fighting the infection. When I was growing up 24hr flu meant, feel sick, thow up, feel fine in the morning, I often wonder if it was just bad food too

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I dont know but I have definitely been sick for a very short time. I have felt so bad that I thought I would be sick for a week and wake up and I am fine. That happened to me last month when I got the flu shot and the h1n1 shot at the same time. I felt terrible the rest of the day, but when I woke up I was fine. I think it depends on one's immune system. Maybe your son has a strong one. Last edited by BaxtersMommy; 01-12-2010 at 05:32 AM. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Thank you...I gave him medicine and set him up in my room - then thought - man ....what if he's contageous ! The funny thing was - he called me ON THE PHONE from my room - that's when I knew he really felt bad - then he told me I did that when I was sick and I didn't even remember - (we're in an apartment not a big house lol) funny how a temperature can make you forget stuff...I ran one for 12 days when I was sick I'm just hoping whatever this is - I don't get it. I just this week am starting to feel human again |

| That's a good question V. I never thought about there "Not" being a 24hr bug but I have thought it just could have been something one had eaten depending on the symptoms, if you know what I mean Running a fever I don't think can be brought on by tained food, at least I had no fever when I got food poinsoning one time but then again I guess you can since there's an infection your body is fightening. Everyone is different it seems. Hope he's on the road to a complete recovery and I'm so glad your past the flu. Your right to be worried about catching something else. Your immune system is still weak so be careful for awhile being around those who are sick. Hugs, |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I know when my dtr was little she would get a 24 hour bug where she would run a low grade fever and be nauseaus and throwing up for about 12 hours and then the next day she would be wanting to eat like nothing was wrong. Hope you don't catch it!!

My kids get the 24 hour bug at least once a year and usually the entire house get its..every other day I would have a sick kid or hubby for about week, so I know that its not something they ate.. not only that when there is a "bug" going around, usually school attendence is down and we will get a note home notifying us of this... My guess is that he had a "bug" ... keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that you stay healthy..((hugs))

| I heard that a 24 hour bug is really a food allergy or poisoning, not a bug. I am glad he is feeling much better though!

| Hi! So glad you're feeling better. I believe there is a 24 hour bug, which I think is a stomach virus. If you eat something and you have severe diarrhea usually within 30 minutes of ingestion, that is your body's reaction to food poisoning, which could be Samonella, e-coli, etc. If your body does not rid itself of the toxin, you can become extremely ill for days and then it's called food poisoning.
