I dont know but I have definitely been sick for a very short time. I have felt so bad that I thought I would be sick for a week and wake up and I am fine. That happened to me last month when I got the flu shot and the h1n1 shot at the same time. I felt terrible the rest of the day, but when I woke up I was fine. I think it depends on one's immune system. Maybe your son has a strong one.
