Just a thought, what about a local Pitt Rescue? Petfinder would probably have a list of them for you and the fosters in these groups would have a wealth of info and maybe a few answers to your questions
She is a beauty, thank you for not turning away from her...I get so tired of the breed bashing and groomer bashing sometimes

You are so kind to look after this stray and try to find where she belongs. She is very lucky you happened to be there and take her in.

However, I can't help but feel somewhat cautiously protective of your lil Yorkies and pray for their safety too, while this big stranger is visiting.

Hope for the best for all of you.

Happily, I don't think she was used for fighting, as those animals are almost always very aggressive and/or anti-social. You would be able to tell from their personality that they haven't been exposed to humans very much, as fighters are kept caged up to themselves. Also, fighters will have scars around their face and front legs, as this is where they are trained to attack. I say just put up some fliers in your neighborhood, that's about the best you can do. She is beautiful though, and hey, if she's good with your dogs and you guys want, just keep her... she looks like an absolute sweetheart! Merry Christmas!

She is beautiful! Looks like fence injuries. Do you know of the fence was chain link in the house she ran up to? I know in AZ you have a lot of adobe walls. How sweet to take her in.

Ann, she is so lucky to have found you guys!! I would bring her in, too. I would just worry that she might get scared or cold or hungry.....of course, that goes hand-in-hand with being an animal lover (something you know a little about)

How do you pronouce her name...Am-bray or Am-bree?

Give that gorgeous angel a pat-pat from me and my guys.

Yep, that's what I was thinking too ! I'm going to call any local Pitt rescues here tomorrow...just to start asking questions...see what their advice is.

No breed bashing from me .

No worries, my friend - she is not w/ my kiddos ; I don't know her well enough to allow that at this time. I have the same fears as you when I pick up any stray...

It looked like only adobe...but we couldn't see the back of the fence. Since the house is For Sale / empty...me and hubby are going over there tomorrow and are going to try to walk in the backyard (as if we're "looking" at the place as buyers) -- and I'm going to see if anything appears funny to me.

Lol...that's exactly what I'm thinkin' too . I mean, I'll be up *all* night if I leave her out there...I really can't do it. I'll just sleep w/ her in another bedroom, I can tell she's a snuggler anywho .

I'm pronouncing it Am-bree....I really think it's fitting her. I swear, her coat is like zebra, leopard, brindle, tan, bronze -- all in one...that brindle is really pretty!

Hasn't he learned that once you let a girl into your home, there's no gettin' rid of her? My husband still tries to be the "tough guy" around here...I just let him believe that he is the boss and then flip the switch.

When he makes "imperative" statements like that...I almost want to snicker a little bit...but I don't .

Ann, if you are deciding to try and locate the owner, please contact a pit rescue and have them check her out first. I was showing hubby her picture (he's a retired cop) and he feels that she may have come from a fighting ring. Not that he's an authority or anything. I'm just concerned with her being a breeding dog, and also with the wounds she had. The one on her chest especially being so deep. At the least someone did not give her the proper care she deserved. i hope it all works out. E.

Thank your hubby for taking a look, I so appreciate it!

I'm not too interested in finding the owner at this point...I more looked at Pets911 and Craigs just to see if anyone had posted about her...in the off chance that she'd been on her own for a long time, and the wounds were from that. But I'm with you...something is not right here...

The rescues...I'd be interested in hearing what they have to say about the pics if I emailed them and/or what our options would be for her if we need rescue help.

She's on my lap right now (lol!) and one of her little wounds is looking icky...so I think I'm going to take her downstairs and put more cream on her head.

Hi All - first, HAPPY HOLIDAYS !

Well, I'm hoping for some guidance from my YT friends and experts. We took the boys for a walk today (Xmas) and saw a loose Pitbull (what we think is a Pitbull, that is). We picked up the boys right away as she started trotting toward us...she was very friendly ! Although she did try to "hop up" on us bc she wanted to smell the boys (omg, and the boys were going embarrassingly crazy!), she at no time tried to snap or anything close.

Anyway, I took Marcel's leash off, put it around her neck (no prob) and waked her home in front of the hubby and the boys (boys losing their minds, omg ).

I let her "have her lead" as we were in a neighborhood and I was curious...interestingly...we came upon a driveway which she walked right into and then proceeded to walk to the side of the house, and then to the backyard gate, which was right there, looking up at me like "are you going to let me in?". This house was for sale and empty .

Please see pics for wounds and I have some questions & details:

**First & foremost, no worries, we will not be taking her to the Humane Ass'n as she is a Pitbull and would likely be put to sleep
**She is a TOTAL sweetheart!!! Very loving and happy-go-lucky.
**She knows how to sit very well.
**Collar in pics is not hers - this is a choke collar I removed from a Lab we rescued in our neighborhood about 2mths ago - she has no collar (don't yet know about chip, but doubt it.)
**Claws not terribly overgrown, but haven't been cut in a while; ears filthy inside...no itching observed, but infection possible.
**Teeth NOT filed down - gorgeous white - estimate age 1-1.5/2
**We have not had her around the boys as we don't know her history

Questions, esp. about wounds:

**First, older wounds are on top of head -- fresher/pinker one is to right of right eye
**Various random, minor, healed scratches and "bumps" on other body areas
**LARGER (about size of 3 nickels lined up) very thickened, scabbed over wound above front leg -- below where collar would sit. Healing fine...but weird . (no pic as covered well by fur...older scab/wound, but thick!)

**Also, see nipples...did she have a litter in her a past?

MOST IMPORTANTLY...do you think these are the classic wounds of a dog who was forced to fight...or are these perhaps just signs of a fight from her being on her own?

Bc if they are clearly from fighting, there is *no* way I will make any attempt whatsoever to find her owners, ya know?

Lastly, she is a total darling and sweetheart - no cowering, not submissive, just a doll -- I'm calling her "ALARIA" for now bc I wanted her name to sound like a little angel .

Advice/thoughts?
Ann,

How wonderful you are......and brave.....

I'm not familiar with the pit bull breed, other than they've received a bum rap. I've seen open wounds on pit bulls that have been brought into ER.....pretty deep and very nasty.....one I saw, the throat was gashed open. So, these guys have pretty powerful jaws.

Her wounds appear to be from dog fights, whether forced or otherwise. The more recent ones could have been from protecting her litter. I'm sure you're familiar on how to take care of open wounds.

The size of her nipples, based on my experience with my girls, even after they've had litters and have been spayed have remained on the larger size. So, when she had her last litter, since she's not lactating, could have been as recent as 8 to 10 weeks ago.

Did you look around the vacant house? Any signs of her litter anywhere? Dug out holes, puppy poop or hers.......

You can do a google look-up to see how recently the house was put up for sale, maybe get some info on the sellers. I know you don't want to find her owners, but it can give you a sense of how long she's been alone.

She does look a bit emaciated, so she may have been on her own for awhile.
