| Copyrighting a bow - LOL Just curious if anyone has heard of such a ridiculous thing before as someone has posted a copyright of a bow and upon researching the us database there is no copyright so curious if anyone has heard of such a ridiculous thing as a friend of mine is being threatened and harrassed about this so thought if there were any attorney's on here and checking with my other groups as well as I do not like when people are threatened for no apparent reason especially when this person stole the design from another bow maker to begin with. This person is sending letters to this other members home threatening her having others harrass her just crazy so want to learn more about this - My understanding is the only thing you cannot do is copy the pics and post that persons pics on your site as the pics are the only thing you can copyright. The person being harrassed is not on this group but I want to see if anyone has researched this and knowledgeable. |

| Is this bow unique in some way? I'm just wondering how many different types of bows there can possibly be! You CAN copyright a bow, but it would have to be unusual in some way.

| I have researched this with many groups 55 to be exact now and all the seamstresses and bow makers said NOPE as they have researched it and you can only copyright the picture. No it is not unique as there are many just like it all over the internet so good luck proving it is unique in someway and it would be really expensive to copyright every bow. I see bows copied all over the place so this seemed really odd to me and why i have taken an interest in it and researching it as i do not like to see people harrassed over something so ridiculous especially when i know this design was copied from someone else sadly |

| Actually it's free to copyright a bow. When you make a bow and it's your artistic work it is automatically copyrighted. If you want to register it with the copyright office it's pretty inexpensive. None of that really means anything though. Only someone mean would sue someone whom they believe to be infringing upon their copyrighted bow.

| Unless it's copyrighted (the design) it's free for the taking and yes you can copyright a design btw. Now on a moral standing it is very disrespectful to steal and yes I mean steal someone's design. It's especially low of the person if the original designer helps that person out answering all the questions and even sharing their resources. I have seen the bows in question and they are a direct rip-off of the original designer. I would be pissed off too. Please Deb don't drag up the whole bow thing again out of spite towards the original designer. I understand times are tough and everyone is trying to survive but the person should really get creative and think up their own designs. Just my 2 cents.

| I make childrens bows www.HauteTotsCouture.com and you can copy someones design unless it is copyrighted which it more than likely probably isnt.Every bow maker makes the same type of bows, there are boutique, twisted boutique, pinwheel, etc.Bows have been around for a long time, therefore I dont think she can have it copyrighted, since she more than likely copied it from someone elses idea anyway.Stealing pictures is copyright infringement and she could sue for that.

| I have Daisy's bows and have not seen where they were duplicated exactly. She started making boutique bows by request from other members and did not copy the ribbon or the center pieces. This person did NOT copy verbatim the way your friend did I mean down to the exact detail. You could have easily looked up copy right laws on the internet instead of taking it to all the forums as you have been doing with ulterior motives.
