| Overwatering or Underwatering? The leaves on my big beautiful ivy plant are turning yellow!! Does this mean I'm watering it too much? Or not enough? Please help me before it looses any more leaves or it will be bald!!

| Yellow leaves mean overwatering. I only water My ivy once a week because they cant take very much water. I always put my finger in the soil and if it is moist I dont water it

| Thank you! I only water mine once a week, also. It sits in a bright window, and the soil always looks very dry when I water but I haven't been putting my finger in to check the deeper soil. Any ideas on how to let it dry out? Should I just skip a week of watering?

| Ivy is a leech it has little suckers on the stems to grip to its host and suck water, it does not need much water. I have witnessed ivy's destroy a brick wall and a stone tiled roof, make sure that it dos not grow through fences and don't let the suckers take a grip on the wall |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Is this indoor or outdoor? Yellowing can be from either over/under watering. I worked at a greenhouse for a summer and we used a cheap-o little water meter for certain plants. To this day, I still use it - and it works perfectly to see where your plants are at; you could probably find this at Home Depot, Target, or a greenhouse. Or, order it on Amazon: Amazon.com: Indoor/Outdoor Moisture Sensor Meter,...

I've seen those little meters at Home Depot - I think I'll go get one & see if that will save my poor plant. Great idea - thank you!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Once you see where the moisture is at...and if all is okay there...maybe it needs fresh topsoil or a re-potting? Or, what about fertilizer? Sometimes a little boost can help w/ fertilizer. Ugh, browning too can be a sign of either under/over. That's what makes moisture balance so tough sometimes. I swear by that little meter though, I've used one for about 15 years, and I just love it!
