| Help! -- How can I remove a splinter?? I seem to have stepped on some cacti 'thorns' (don't know what you call them) and some are imbedded in the bottom of my toe. They are tiny and invisible so I can't even find them to remove them with tweezers. I have already tried the scotch tape method and making a paste of baking soda and water and letting it dry and pulling it off (found this method online). Neither worked. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

| I have this problem when I mulch..they are so tiny, you can't see them, but boy can you feel them. Get a flat razor blade, just the razor blade part and scrape the razor part along where the sliver is. Hold it on it's side and just scrape it along. Just kind of barely scrape...I hope this makes sense. It might take a little bit, but you should be able to get it like that.

| Found this online shake up a bottle of Elmer's School Glue. Any other brand white school glue will also work fiPour a little of the glue into the palm of the hand with the splinter or cactus thorn. With your uninjured hand, use a finger or two to spread a moderately thin layer of glue over the area where the splinter or cactus needle is located. Spread the glue about 1/2 an inch around the suspected site of the splinter or embedded cactus needle. Use a paper towel or tissue to wipe the excess, unused Elmer's school glue from the palm of your hand. Be careful not to wipe away any of the glue on your finger or wherever the glue is situated around the splinter Allow the glue to dry for about five minutes and then repeat steps 3 and 4 to add another thin layer of glue to the site of the small hard-to-see splinter or cactus sticker(s). A couple layers of glue will make for a better hold on the splinter or cactus needle. Once the second layer of glue has dried, gently peel off the glue. With any luck, it should remove the cactus needles or splinters! Sometimes, if there are several cactus needles present, a second "gluing" is necessary to capture and remove all of the tiny cactus stickers.

| When my oldest son was a little tyke I dropped him face first in a cactus -- it was a very stupid accident on my part -- he wouldn't get off his big wheel, so I picked up baby and big wheel and were carrying them into the house as a unit. He slipped off the big wheel right into the cactus bush that was planted by my front door. That horrid cactus plant was gone before night fall. Luckily none got into his eyes or nose -- pediatrician had me soak him in a warm bath then scrape the evil little stickers off. On a side note -- NEVER EVER use your husband's horse shoeing gloves to gather cacti from the side of the road. The Elmer's glue method sounds fantastic! I bet if anything would work it would. Hummmm I wonder how Gorilla Glue would work? |

| Thanks for the ideas. I have been trying to blindly pick them out with tweezers and I think I may have gotten some of them out and it is better. I also tried the duct tape and it worked a lot better than scotch tape (thanks). There seems to be one or two left and they aren't bothering me that much. It is unfortunate that they are on the bottom of my feet and I have to walk on them. lol I am going to to try the glue next. Thanks! By the way, I think the cactus plants have to go, I was wondering if the puppies have ever gotten any in them. I sure hope not. They are sitting on a table outside and I didn't think those Evil Cacti No See 'Ems would fall on the ground but they did.

| I just had a splinter story. It's not from cactus, but boy did it hurt! It was the late 80s and I was about 10 years old (I don't remember the exact year). My family was on a road trip going to Zion, Bryce Cyn, and visiting the 4 corner states. We got to a landmark (again don't remember what it was). What I do remember though, was there was a big sign like "Welcome to....." and to take a pic with the sign you have to go up a bit of stairs and sit on a bench (like bleachers). Well, it being the 80s I was wearing thin spandex bike pants. As soon as I sat down, I got an a$$ full of splinters! I jumped up and screamed, and of course my dad called me a baby and told me to sit back down, giving me a second round of a$$ splinters! After taking the painful pic with a fake forced smile, my mom helped me out... by making me lay face down in the back seat of our rental car with my pants down and my bare butt out while she pulled out the splinters one by one. That was a fun vaca.

I tried the glue and it worked GREAT!!! -- no more splinters/thorns/needles/Evil Cacti No See Ems/stickers (I think that was the word I was trying to think of) !!! I have been walking on the side of my foot for several days to avoid stepping on the thorns in the bottom of my foot. Now I have a sore foot from walking like that and I will have to concentrate on walking the right way again. lol I was so anxious to remove the stickers that I couldn't wait for the glue to dry and ripped it off while it was still 'tacky'. It still worked. Phew. Glad that's over. THANK YOU!!! to everyone who posted.
