| Yes, I have doors that lead to the outside deck right by my bed. I noticed they were not closed all the way the night before when I was going to bed. I think he snuck in then.

Bless your heart!!! I would've dropped dead on the spot. You're a way better person than I ... not only would that little bat have been dead but I would've moved the next day. I am mortified of things like that. I'll bet you won't go to bed tonight without making darn sure that door is closed tight!

| ![]() ![]() I would have screamed so loud and probably had a heart attack. Awe....I hope the bat doesn't have Rabies for your sake. I'm sure you'll check those doors that lead to your outside deck, often now to make sure no other bats/creatures get in.

| So, are there any sicknesses/diseases that small dogs can contract if they walk through bat poop? |

| That would have scared me half to death. We have bats that police our back yard at night and that creeps me out a little but I tell myself they are eating up the mosquitos. But not in my bedroom! Whoa! My son came in the front door hollering and dancing around tonight. I couldn't figure what was wrong, then he finally told me there was a bug crawling on him. He turned around and I saw it! One of those great big things they call palmetto bugs but are really giant cockroaches that usually stay outside. Now he has brought the thing in the house! I yell to take off his shirt, which he did and I sprayed the bug with ant spray, but the dang thing got away. It is still lurking somewhere in the living room. Now I can't sit in my chair! Since I did get some spray on him, maybe he will die and I'll find him tomorrow. I hate bugs! I tell you this so you can say "well -- better a bat than a palmetto bug in my house!" Some consolation, huh?

| I just read through the rest of the posts. Mandy -- I think most everyone would see the bat had to be sacrificed for testing -- much preferable than you having to go through painful and sometimes dangerous rabies shots! I know we all love all creatures, great and small but sometimes it cannot be helped. (Hope I don't bring more wrath for killing my palmetto bug.... ( Seriously, I am sorry you had to go through the whole ordeal. I know you would rather have not even met the bat, let alone have him tested for rabies. Welcome to YT, if I have not said so before. This is a great place to learn, share, and have fun.

| eww shudders! bet you keep those doors firmly closed from now on lol what would be the implications if that bat has rabies will they mass cull all of the bats and roaming animals in that area and routinely treat everyone pets and all? was just reading up on it if a bat gets into a home here.. it seems to all be in the bats favor although we have low rabies here .. found this bit funny though.. thought of a dead bat being send via post made me giggle "If an attack from a bat is unprovoked, the incident should be reported immediately and, if possible, the bat should be retained for analysis. If the bat is alive, please seek further advice from the Veterinary Laboratories Agency or the Bat Conservation Trust . If the bat is dead, please send it to the Veterinary Laboratories Agency (specimen tubes and FREEPOST envelopes are available from the Bat Conservation Trust)." |

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I must say I was not able to sleep in my room lastnight. I was just too freaked out. Didnt want to worry my 6 and 11 yr old so we had a 'slumber party' for the last day of school and slept in the living room. I am going to clean and check every corner of my bedroom today, when the sun is bright , and hopefully I can sleep in there tonight. The Critter Catcher man checked the outside of the house for any colonies and did say he didnt think we would get more, so that helps also.

About 8 yrs. ago while living/working in GA, Patrick was meeting with a landowner late one night. I was trying to busy myself until he got home and decided to clean, change sheets, etc. I was just finishing making our bed and saw something on the comforter. It just looked like something dropped on there so I barely touched it with my finger. OMG!! It moved and it looked like a 1" - 1 1/2" Scorpion!!! It ran and I ran, almost falling all the way to the bottom of the stairs ... I grabbed a phone and jumped up on a chair in the middle of the dining room. I called Patrick, screaming to the top of my lungs and didn't move off that chair until he got home. He went upstairs, killed the scorpion and assured me everything was OK .... yeah, right! I said I was not sleeping in the house again ... especially not with that comforter on my bed. He kept insisting ... "it's dead, gone ... the comforter is new"!! I kept screaming ... "throw it out" ... I was more terrified imagining 100's of the little critters just waiting to bite me in my sleep!! Finally, he threw the comforter out, changed the sheets again [looking in every nook & cranny] and he very patiently did this every single night for two weeks while I watched to make sure nothing was there. He is such a patient, sweet man! We did find out, when we called our landlady in Chattanooga, that those littile things are common to that area of GA and they only feel like a wasp if they sting you!!!! She really got a laugh out of my ordeal and sent an exterminator down the next day. Sorry this is so long, but your bat brought this back to my mind so vividly ... I definitely "feel your pain". It's a terrible thing to be so afraid.
