I LOVE where I am from. New England is my home and I can't wait to get back. |

Our local PBS station plays a special sometimes on the "Great People of Oklahoma", you can't watch it and not feel pride in my home State. To the OP, look for the good in your area - I know you'll find something to take pride in about your city. And, you are in no way responsible for the shameful things, so don't ever feel that way! |
LOL! I'm from Mississippi. Outside people think that we are racist rednecks who wear overalls and no shoes! Happily though I've made my peace with Mississippi and have grown quite fond of my home state. (That was not the case when I was a teenager!) Now I just say to myself... As long as people don't know about the "Real Mississippi" then traffic stays non existent and I can get to work in 5 minutes. So keep thinkin' what you want to America! |
When I"m asked where are you from and I say Atlantic City, NJ they look at me like people live there? LOL Growing up there ,it was so beautiful and so much fun living 2blocks from the beach and ocean. I knew every block and crevice and had club houses all over Atlantic City. Watching the rich people being pushed along the boardwalk in carriages, watching people swim in the pools along the boardwalk and sneaking into some without getting caught. The Easter Parade and Miss American Pagent, all things I grew up with when AC was beautiful. Watching the diving horse at the Pier and proforming in the Ted Mack Amatur Hour playing the accordian are all wonderful memories I have of the city. Now, it's dirty and ugly, IMO. I never go into the city when I go down to visit. Hate the casino's and what they have done to a beautiful city. They were suppose to revitalize it but made it worse. Oh well, that's where I'm from. |

I completely understand. being military everyone asks where r you from. The truth is were from Detroit. Not a great place anymore. I mostly tell people MI and do the glove hand sign. It gets a laugh and I get around the detroit problem. |

Were stationed about an hour outside of austin. We really dont go far much anymore. we did see the Alamo and the John Wayne Alamo in Bracketville when we got here but not much else. Weve also saw Waco on road trips :) . Coming from MI we had to go by the branch dividan site. Such a disappointment. LOL |
I have moved enough to know that no matter where you live there will always be some joke or tragedy about the state or area you reside. Sadly there will always be crime, good guys/bad guys, good cops/bad cops, etc. If you are happy with where you live, your children are safe and the school system is doing a good job then who cares what they think. We moved here from Phoenix due to the crime etc, we live outside Minneapolis and are very happy here. Our neighborhood is still considered "very desirable" in the real estate circles even though it's older. But some people from work act like we live in a cardboard shack in the middle of a corn field. We don't have to deal with alot of things they do and are just fine with that. |
You need to go to San Antonio, the River Walk, is soooo much fun. I love to hear the Mariachi...Im not crazy about Austin. Lots of Bums around UT. Waco is a lovely city. |

You shouldn't feel that way and trust me I understand what you mean. I just laugh at them, they are so silly and so self absorbed. People think I am crazy cause I say what I want and to your face :p There are some really good people out there, even though they have more money than God they still raise their children with traditional values, so you can't lump them all together. I look at it this way if I drop dead in a Mercedes or a Hyundai we are still going to the same place, so does it matter? :D Always be proud of where your from and never let anyone tell you different. When people judge you before they know you that means they are unhappy with themselves. :D |
