Are you ever ashamed to tell people where you are from?? Like when I'm talking to people I am ashamed to tell them I am from Cincinnati, although I grew up in the suburbs of the city it was still called Cincinnati, it takes about 30 minutes to get to downtown. Cincinnati is becoming this horrible place that nobody wants to even think about visiting. I do NOT drive downtown unless i'm with my husband and we are going to a reds game or something like that, otherwise we steer clear of it. Today news reads "Unthinkable Tragety" Cincinnati mayor: 'Unthinkable tragedy' | Cincinnati.com | Cincinnati.Com I'm so sick of all the crime that goes on downtown, it makes the rest of the area look bad. We have a murder almost daily, and sometimes multiple in a day!! Most of this crime is happening in what's called 'Over the Rine', which is the worst of the worst neighborhoods, it's not safe to even think about driving into. And what's worse is everyone that lives there is blaming the crime on the cops, but yet when a murder like this happens how are the cops supposed to stop it and why isn't anyone stepping up and telling the cops who this person is, you know somebody knows who murdered these people. Sorry everyone I just needed to get some of that out. I'm so sick of this place!! At least right now I can say I live in Fairfield which is in the next county over. |
I know how you feel.... I'm from Waco. (For those of you who don't know....Google... Branch Davidians.) For awhile there if you lived anywhere in the Waco area, people from out of state actually asked if you were in the compound.:eek: Ah no! LOL My son, who was 14 at the time, went on a skiing trip right after all of the mess happened here. Someone asked him what he thought about it all. His answer? "Uncle David doesn't like us to talk about it." :p I know LOTS of great people from Cincinnati! I know you, right? :D |

We drive through Cincinnati going to my parents. We always say we would love to stop but we also say, I bet there is plenty of crime there... we say this in every big city we pass. My DH is a cop and sees the crime in our smaller city of Harrisburg. We don't live in the city (thank goodness) but there will always be thugs and dirtbags...in every city. |
lol well thanks, that makes me feel a little better. Cincinnati is so HUGE, the problem is mainly downtown, of course the surrounding areas aren't great either but the further you get away from downtown the better it gets. I grew up living almost on the county line, so one more mile away and I would no longer be in Cincinnati lol. I just hate Cincinnati so much, the worst part about it is that as they are trying to clean the city up it's pushing all the people into the suburbs and ruining our schools and neighborhoods. Like where I went to high school, the school has turned to crap, 1 year after I graduated a girl got raped in the all purpose room DURING SCHOOL!! Now they have gangs in there and everything else. Me and my husband are trying to move out to the middle of no where to get away from it all. I don't want my kids going to these schools (when I have kids that is lol) I don't want my kids to not be able to play outside because they have to worry about getting shot or kidnapped. ooooh I could just go on and on.....but I have to leave work now lol so i'll be back on later to see others comments!! Thanks for listening to me ramble!! |
Hahahaha need I say more? Heck I'm from Cleveland and I hear stuff all the time..but I try to tell people the positive about us..like Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame..sports teams, etc. Plus all the cultural activiities..heck do I wish I was in LA or something..you bet...but it is what it is. It's tough living the Midwest. Oh and if one more person asks me..oh you live by the river that caught on fire..I'll scream..lol |
Nope! I'm not ashamed to tell people where I'm from. :) I'm from a small city just outside of Erie. But what I would be ashamed of is that I live in a trailer park. But I don't care... I love where I live! :D I hate it when people say "trailer trash" though... :( |

Yes, I don't like to tell people what state I live in now ( which has been about 12 yrs), so I will say what state I was born and raised in. |
Yes! If you ever see anyone from Louisiana on Fox or CNN nine times out of ten you will see the most red neck or ghetto person they can find...it dives me crazy! There are really people who live here with teeth and know how to speak. Angie |

I'm afraid it's like that in most big cities... that's why I want to live as far away from one as I can (right now I live 10 minutes from downtown Cincy in Ft. Mitchell, KY. for school. YUCK!) I'm just now reading about those murders... makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to think that someone could do that. :( |
I love where I live! I don't think I could ever survive in a big city. I love living "where everybody knows your name". Hardly any crimes and most would give you the shirt off their back if you needed it. I've been to one big city before - Indianapolis, IN and I thought I was going to croak, it was so not what I'm used to. |
oh and the riots that happened back in 2003!! That was scary!! my sister was downtown at the time it broke out, she was going to an art college. As soon as it broke on the news I was calling her telling her to get the hell out of there!! She immediately left school and sped till she was out of the city, I was so scared for her. people were litterally jacking cars, throwing stuff through store front windows and stealing from the stores. I was just glad my sister got out alive. If you don't know what riot i'm talking about look it up, it is a controversial reason. ericajm: do NOT stop in Cincinnati if you don't know the city at all, it is WAY too easy to get lost and end up somewhere you'll end up getting shot at. Thats why I don't go downtown without my husband, I've driven there by myself one time and I never did it again because one second I was in a decent part then the next second I was in over the rine and of course it's all one way streets so I couldn't just turn around, I had to keep going. It was scary. my husband is a corrections officer and he is going to be a police officer hopefully within the year. He is hoping to start classes in a few months. But he will NOT be working for cincinnati, that would give me a heart attack lol, he's going where there isn't as much crime, or at least that type of crime. |

I am, but for a different reason. I'm in Orange county, CA now, but grew up and went to school in suburbs 40 mins from downtown LA, I won't say what city maybe I might offend someone? The kids there are known for being big time spoiled brats (as are most of the kids in OC now as well). Brand new BMWs for 16th bday that kind of thing. (and crashing them for racing too) But my family was always on the lower middle class side. My dad worked 2 full time jobs, and my mom worked full time as well. My grandparents worked until in their 70s (even though they were highly respected upper class citizens in their home country) as waiter and seamstress. I don't like saying what high school or college I went to. Maybe it was just my year? I don't know, but most my friends feel the same way. Around here it seems you just say that city and people think "brat". i don't really like that. |
I feel kinda dumb now, posting what I did once I read everyone else's posts. That's a better reason than mine. : ( |

capt noonie: Don't think that, I think you have a good reason. I know there are some areas and schools that I thought that about, it sucks but it's true. There was one girls private school that I couldn't stand because every girl I met from there was stuck up and of course they did have money, I ended up moving across the street from one when I hit high school and I couldn't stand her because she was always mean and snobby. I do now know everyone isn't like that, it took me getting older to realize it but at least i finally realized it!! So your feelings are not off base here. I wanted to hear all stories not just stories like mine!! So thanks for sharing!! |
When I think of Cincinnati, first thing comes to mind WKRP IN CINCINNATI. Loved that show. Be Proud of where you are from. We have other issues in Texas.... |

Never ashamed of where I'm from or where I've lived, but I have usually had to say a nearby big city to have anyone know where I was talking about. Seems we have always lived in small cities no one has ever heard of. Even now, I usually just say I live in NW Florida. I love being on the Gulf Coast! |
Although i miss the best pizza ever (Chicago) plus all of the other good Italion food I still love my old Kentucky home Betty & Micah my love:aimeeyork |

Im not from Tx but I try to find things I most like about a state, I love TX MEX FOOD, YUM. The Texas Long Horn Cattle are so unique. You should see the young ones when they are first growing those horn. I am a Redskin fan so that does not do me anygood in the middle of Cowboy Country. Although I have seen real cowboys wearing chaps. Thats kind of cool. |
I was born in Cincinnati and I've lived most of my life here, but I have also lived in three other states. I couldn't wait when I was young to get out and live other places, after living other places it did give me a better appreciation of home. Cincinnati is far from perfect, but all cities have problems. So I think it's hard to escape all the issues. My main reason for wanting to live somewhere else is, I would love to live somewhere that has a view of mountains and water! :) |
