thank you for the feed back, i wanted to see what others thought of the book. i read it a couple of times and thought most of the chapters are very informative and funny, but there are definitely some chapters that are VERY HARD to read.

If you are looking for some good books about diet, I loved 'The Omnivore's Dilemma' (this is not a diet book, but it's about how food is produced in the US and why there is corn in absolutely everything nowadays); 'Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy', which DOES have very well founded science about diet. It's the only nutrional book I've ever read that actually covers all the major studies done about diet and says, "this is what we are very sure of, this is what we think is probably true, and this is what we're guessing." Very refreshing!

Also, I'm getting into the new Lifetime show "Cook Yourself Thin". It has a lot of really good tips.

where did you see the reviews. i would like to take a look. i am not surprised that there are bad reviews about the book. kind of reminds me of jenny mccarthy's stance on vaccines for children. it's not surprising to know that she faced a lot of negativity (and positivity) from her stance.

oh, i love their style, i thought it was a very funny read, but i can see why some people might not think it's good.

i have seen a lot of factory farm videos too, well, maybe not that many, but enough to scar me for life that's for sure!

i thought the exposure of the factory farm was even more in-depth in this book, because they compiled the info. they got from different sources/books/interviews. it's more than just the treatment of animals in the factory farms, but there's info. about the whole process. (how unsanitary, and problems with regulations, laws, ...etc.)

i also have the cookbook. i don't know if it's good or not because i really don't cook that much. but i know that they hired professional chefs to help them develop the cookbook. i will try to cook a few things from the cook book and let you know if it's any good

I've heard that about the cookbook as well but I have a friend who loves it. I'm guessing it's a good resource for new vegans who need basics.

To those who aren't familiar with it, there is a lot of, um, harsh language in it. If you aren't comfortable with the F word, it probably isn't for you. I loved it but I can be a potty mouth sometimes.

I've read it and love it! Don't expect a nice vocabulary from the writers, but I guess their point is for you to get the message of what you are reading. They sure make their point!
It's about eating right, being compassionate and feeling good about it.

I read the book when it first came out. As said by Nikki, It is not for the faint of heart. It is a fabulous read. It made me sick, incredibly sad and soooo angry all at the same time.

If you want to read it, be prepared for very graphic stories about the animal cruelty.

I listened to the audio book and it really makes you think about what your eating. I really watched my diet for a while after that. Any food that came from an animal in any way grossed me out and sometimes still does.

I feel like a dork to admit it but it's what made me stop eating meat. I knew from reviews it had a vegetarian "agenda" and i had no intentions of stopping eating meat but I had gotten into some bad eating habits and thought it would shake me up a bit. It did! I put it down and said, that's it- no more for me. My daughter had been veggie for a year or so at that point so she was thrilled. It actually made me try to go vegan but I have to admit I failed at that pretty quickly. I've tried a few times since and one day it will stick.

I've always kinda felt that way about meat, dairy.... So I understand exactly how you feel, that book just made me more so. I still feed my kids milk, meat.... and have a very hard time with it but hubby is definitely a meat and potatoes kinda man and against my vegan wannabe ways.

I eat almost no meat and dairy but still not 100% yet, like you would like to be one day. Still have the odd McDonalds hamburger, sour cream, butter... but not too often.
