| musicians of YT I was just curious to see if anyone here is proficient on a musical instrument (voice included) or if anyone is in the process of learning to play anything. Also, what other talents does the members of YT have?

| I am obsessed with learning to play the cello. I absolutely STINK at it. I tell Mike, I don't play because I'm good at it, I play because I enjoy it.

| That's awesome! I absolutely LOVE stringed instruments. I'd love to learn the cello, but I heard their strings are expensive. I'll stick to my guitar where the strings are cheap

| I tried learning the guitar. I ended up with 11 stitches in my arm from a broken string. lol Then I moved on to the violin and nearly poked my eye out with the bow. So far I haven't sustained any injuries from the cello!

Seriously, I almost poked my eye out changing my guitar strings once. I have no idea what I was thinking, but it was my first time doing it and instead of taking them off of the tuning pegs properly, I snipped the 6th string (the heavy-est) with wire cutters... I had the guitar neck between my legs, so the string snapped straight up and hit me right on the bridge of my nose (on the side closest to my eye). I was really lucky it didn't hit me IN the eye!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have no talents but my husband play 12 and 6 string acoustic and electric. He is self taught and has a talent for any stringed instrument. He has like 7 guitars. He also plays the harmonica when he plays the guitar. I love the 2 together.

| My hubby is the musically talented one in our household. When I was in high school, I was a drummer........ but that was a LONG time ago. Occasionally I will get on my hubby's kit, but it is just for fun now.

| I was a music major in college and can play just about anything but strings. Now my hubby is the musician. He was a drummer in high school and now he is a 1 man band, lol. He can't read any music and taught himself how to play everything. It amazes me because I could never do that. I can't play anything without music! Anyway, his music is pretty hard rock. He has a website too: 7 SourMash I think you can hear one of his songs on there.

| I play tenor saxophone. I have played in rock bands, but my favorite is jazz. I formed a band when I lived in Maine that was named after my Yorkie, Edie. I go back to play with them a few times a year. The band is called "The Edith Jones Project". You can see our website at Entertainment - Home Page. Recorded our first CD in January, but it is not out yet--still working on mastering and artwork, etc. Last edited by alisonJ; 04-19-2009 at 05:02 PM. |

| I have played the clarinet since I was in 4th grade. I was 10 years old. When I graduated in 1978 I worked 2 jobs and would take it out occassionally. Over the years my neices took lessons and I would help them. My clarinet was an antique when my parents got it for me in 5th grade. It's close to 75 y.o. Last year I bought a new brown clarinet, my old one was black. I got the music books from the 70's that I played in HS. Last year I bought an electric Organ that can play all the instruments and was trying to teach myself to play. My hubby who has no former training just plays by ear...I gave up and now it gets played for the Naturalization Day Luncheons that we have 5 times a year. There is no piano @ the Luncheon, So, we us mine. Maybe I'll start up again. I've always wanted to play the piano or organ...I just need to get motivated again!!

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I sing. Well. I'm learning to. haha. I started taking voice lessons when I was 13. I don't do anything big right now. I sing at coffee houses and open mic nights and whatnot. I love doing musicals. My absolute dream is to be on Broadway, but I would love to have the experience of touring around doing shows in random cities (in fact, my first voice teacher who recently moved is in Nebraska right now doing a show, and I think that would be awesome). But yeah. I love it.

| I don't play any musical instruments. Reading music is like a foreign language to me. But my husband plays electric & acoustic guitar and my daughter knows how to play the clarinet.

YT 1000 Club Member | My son's a music major in college. The first time I heard one of his voice recitals was when he was still in H/S. I had tears in my eyes and my DH and I were shaking. DH was trying to video tape it and that's hard when your shaking like that. Not sure why we had that reaction. We were shocked and really had never heard him sing QUITE LIKE THAT. He also plays percussion at a local community college, has a sax and a clarinet and takes piano. I told him the piano is his and can take it with him when he has his own place. He's the only one that ever stuck with any of it. Can you tell I'm so proud of him? He's trasferring this fall to a State college. He didn't get any of this from me I can tell you that!!

| I love music...I played the flute...I also started piano/keyboard lessons...wished I had stuck to that...I also play my "voice" lol. Actually majored in music theory for a bit in college before i changed majors. Took a class in classical. Never sung professionally or was formally trained but was in HS chorus & did many events throughout HS(singing national anthem at games, sang at graduation, etc.), college, weddings & things like that.... If there's ever an American Idol Senior (haha), maybe I'll tryout for it!!
