Thanks for posting all this useful info on peels. I will have to read up on this. I used to use a prescription lightening cream with Retin A. Then I gave up on that had a laser treatment done a year ago for really bad hyperpigmentation on my face from years of laying in the sun. It worked well but I still have a little ruddiness on my cheeks. I'm also starting to notice nasolabial folds and tiny wrinkles under my eyes so this may work well for me.

I did a lot of reading on here, probably for about 3 weeks, before I ordered some products, it was really helpful because I didn't find a lot of info on the product sites...The stickys also have some useful links to check out.....

This is a process and it doesn't work with just a couple of light peels.....I would suggest using the search tab and read up on terms like: .......frost or frosting.....layering....skin prepping.....retin a......retinol........pre peel....post peel......glycolics....TCA......Vaseline....peel series.....etc. etc...

I forgot to add, if you have acne issues you can do a search on .....salicylic acid on the forum I mentioned above.....This peel is supposed to be helpful....

I was going to start a thread about chemical peels, but recalled we already had one. I do 60% glycolic peels and 40% lactic acid peels at home...but still have the at-home TCA 15% that I haven't yet used bc I'm nervous.

Anyone else have a TCA since this thread in 2009?

I got Tri-luma from my dermatologist. I have some sun spots from sitting in the sun. Not only did i get the cream from my doctor..she also read my the riot act The sun is my one guilty pleasure.

The Tri-luma did work...the sun spots do go away...BUT they do return if you go back in the sun. My Dr will be glad to know that i do use 50 SPF moisturizer on my face daily now..so SOME of what she said sank in. I still do love the beach though!!!

Ann, I've done about three TCA 15% peels over the past 1 1/2 years. The 15% is considered to be a mild peel. It's probably close to the gly your using. I was soooo nervous doing it. I would have panicked if I had not read about them and the frosting that can occur with them. Since I was prepared it went well.

It really wasn't much different than the gly., except it was self timing and the gly isn't. You shouldn't peel in sheets, it's more of a light flaking and minor little *peeleys*. Having said that I'm not a big fan of them. I don't like the down time. My face was tighter and a bit more peeling, more so in the frosted areas. By the time I did the third TCA I had worked my way up to three layers to get it to frost. I've never gotten a * complete* frost, it's always spotty. It those areas where it did frost it seemed to peel in a thin patch. In those areas my skin did look smoother. During the flaking and peeling process I didn't like the way my skin felt during the down time, it made me very irritable. I just wanted my regular skin back. It took about ten days to get there.

If you continue to use the gly's you'll get to the same end result as using a TCA but it just takes a little longer to get there. I'm not sure why some peoples b/a pic's have such dramatic looking results because I have never had a *Holy Cow!* moment using any of these acids. It's always been very sublte changes. I should have taken pic's before I started, I might have changed a lot and I just don't notice it because I see my face everyday.

I have a 25% TCA but I haven't gotten up the nerve to use it yet.....I'm mainly going to stick to the lactics' and the higher % gly's...

Your comment about getting the same result w/ longer use of glys is helpful, and sounds much more doable. Do you think I should now go up in %? I'm tolerating current % really well.

So, would I possibly see more benefit going from 60% Gly to 70% Gly and from 40% lactic to 65%...? Or, would the change be sort of negligible?

To try and tell someone else as to what strength to use is not something I would feel comfortable to do. There are so many variables that can effect the acid and it's effects on the skin.

For instance: How sensitive is your skin?...What other products have you been using before using these peeling solutions?...This can greatly effect the speed and intensify of the burn, resulting in an undesirable result.......Are your products buffered (ph)? This will effect the speed and evenness (or unevenness) when the acid is applied to the skin.

The type of acid your using, the % strength, the ph, the length of time the acid is left on and the body part your going to put the acid on are all factors that have to be considered before using one of these acids.

So you see everyone is going to be a little different in what the can tolerate, how quickly it will absorb, and how long they can keep the solution on...etc., etc. Stronger isn't always better. Using a 30% gly has been shown to give you the same results as a higher % gly..... You'll eventually end up with the same results as the stronger ones but just a bit slower and safer.

If what your doing is working for *you* then I would keep doing that until your more comfortable to move to something a little stronger ( if that's needed or desired). With these products it's best to be over cautious than to be to gung ho, after all it is our face we are risking...

Remember to always do a patch test, wait 24 hours, and see the result before using these.....
