| Playmate for Maxwell: Lab/Rot Mix My neighbor's kid had a dog and I asked him over to play with Maxwell since he has no playmates. His Dad and him found him at a lake where they fished at. His Mom won't let this teenage boy keep him, but she is going to take the dog to the Vet and whatever till they find him a home. Mom already has a cat whom doesn't get along with humans. I told him I was thinking of a mate for Maxwell. They did try to play together and for moments Coco was gentle. Then he was getting rough. He thinks it is a Lab/Rot mix but he will find out when they go to the Vet tommorrow. I mentioned maybe we could co-own it together and that way he could play with it. But I changed my mind when Coco was getting a bit rough. Plus Maxwell was attacked by a Rot last summer. It's a beautiful dog and Cocoa is the color of the dog. It looks like it's in the pup stages, but I don't know if I want the responsiblity. I told him he would have to get him trained and gave him some info. Are Labs rough~? What about the mix~? Is that asking for troubles~? Just curious. Thanks. |

| I have a Border Collie along with little Reesie, and Tinker Bell the cat. The girls all get along, play chase the cat, the cat plays chase the Yorkie, and no fights or bad behavior so far. But my son brought home a Pit/Lab/Shephard and they seem to know they don't want it here. The Pit has tried to squash the Yorkie a few times so I keep him away from the others. IMHO, you're asking for trouble mixing a big dog with a little dustmop. I have little control over the Pit situation so I protect Reesie all I can. Big dogs tend to think of small dogs as varmints, like squirrels. It's a tragedy waiting to happen. |

| IMO, I think labs can be too hyper and rough. My BFF had a lab mix stray for a while, but had to rehome it when it kept knocking their 4 year old down to the floor all the time. Yes, it was playing, but it still hurt their daughter. They attempted to train it an hoped it would calm down but it didn't. I'm not saying all labs are like that, but that's my experience. I would worry about it getting to exited and playful and accidentally hurting your little sweetie.

| Yeah, I agree Maxwell's best buddy is Bow Wow, which is a Lab/Husky mix. He's an older dog, perhaps 4 years old I was told. He's gentle as a lamb and loves seeing Maxwell. He has even protected me when a stranger came in the neighborhood. I was shocked cause I have never seen Bow Wow act that way or even bark. But after meeting this cute Lab/Rot mix (not sure of the mix, but Michael thinks he is) I had doubts. Maxwell was attacked by a Rot at a dog event here last summer that scared both of us terribly. There was a Vet there that checked him out and all was okay. He was motionless for quite a while and wouldn't take water or anything. But once I brought him home and over to Bow Wow's house, he was fine and acted like nothing is wrong. Maxwell was my mid-life crisis, as I tell everyone. That is a good crisis and I wouldn't want to change my life again. I did have thoughts, but I have too much going on as it is. Thanks for the info. |

| I would worry about the mix, not the lab because they are gentle, have seen to many aggressive rots.
