| Anyone a Librarian? Hi Everyone! I've been thinking about going back to school to get my Masters in Library Science to be a librarian. Anyone a Librarian? Love it? Hate it? I want to hear all about it! What kind of Librarian are you? (Academic? Reference? Medical? Public? Youth? Adult? Media? Etc....) Thanks! Elizabeth

| They've actually closed the libraries in my town, including all the school ones. Everything has gone internet nowadays. I've always loved the library though....its soooooooooooo quiet.

| I'm a medical librarian at a 300-bed hospital. I LOVE my work. I am not crazy about the manual stuff like processing new books and such but I do medical research for the staff and physicians which is really cool. I learn so much. PM me with questions if you like. Where are you thinking about going to school? Do you already have a bachelors? |

| Hey Lou- I sent you a PM LDandpasquale: I can't believe they CLOSED your libraries! I do understand the growing move toward electronics, but they could have converted the library! -Elizabeth

| I'm not OLD!!! And high school libraries are not to quite. Yes to be a librarian you need a masters, not to easy to be a librarian. You do need to be able to do more then just read. (Had a person tell me how easy my job was, all you do is read all day) I don't have my masters but I do everything the librarian does.

| I'm certain I was a librarian in a former life. I LOVE them. The quainter the better. I especially love research, and was never happier than when I poked around archives all over the country for my first book. If I worked in a library, they'd have to keep me away from the electronics--I am hopeless. I would do best as an archivist. I definitely think that if you feel the pull, you should go for it. Maybe you could shadow several different types of librarians to get a clearer idea of which area you'd pursue (if you don't know already). On the topic of books, sort of: a shameless plug, for the good of abused Yorkies. Did you read about last weekend's puppy mill bust in southeast Mo? 93 Yorkies found in unspeakable conditions. I'm trying to raise $$ on YT tfor the rehab of those dogs to donate to the Mo Humane Society, via sales of my new book, HOW THE YORKIE RESCUED SANTA-An Adventure in Doggerel. Just $8 plus $1.50 S & H. All profits go to the Yorkies. In just 2 days I've raised almost $100!!! If you're interested, email me at carolporter04@yahoo.com. You can read about the book on my website, Carol S. Porter - Writer, Editor, Speaker Maybe you could donate a copy to your favorite library!! Many, many thanks --- and ALWAYS follow your dream when you can!!! All the best, C and O |

God will get ya for that one girlfriend! LOL I think if I had it to do all over again I would go into computers more. Librarians are becoming more and more useful in that area. many are the webmasters for their organizations. When I retire I'm going to be a freelance informationist. I think that is a trend that hasn't even begun to peak. And I hate to hear about libraries closing because stupid people think everything is free on the Internet. Think about it. Someone somewhere is paying for the information. Besides, only about 10% of the world's knowledge is available online! The rest is usually dug up in libraries and archives! Oh geez......don't get me started! lol. Bizzbeth, I've been home sick so if you emailed me at work I didn't get it yet. I did get your PM. Did you get mine? | |
