| Anyone's Dog have Pawpad infections? " Hi " This question is in regards to my rescued Puppy Mill dog, Gracie. Kinda long, but Thanks for reading. She is a sweetheart but we've had her to the vets 3 times since we got her in September of last year for paw/pawpad problems. I know coming from a Puppy Mill she spent her whole life in a wire crate probably stepping on her own urine & feces so I'm sure that's where the problem lies. Her one paw got inflamed and she held it up and wouldn't walk on it, this was 2 days after we got her so we ended up taking her to the Pet Emergency, they did blood work, x-rays and said her paw wasn't broken but had a bad infection in it. Nothing showed up on the blood work. She was on antibiotics for 2 weeks, and during that time we soaked her foot 2 times a day in a solution the vet gave us. When this happens her pawpad gets inflamed and then the front of the paw opens up and gets like a sore on it, then the sore heals. She recovered from that and a month later her other paw started the same thing. We took her back to the vets and they did a full body x-ray this time cause they said if something is going on in her body, it could possibly show up in other ways. Nothing showed up on the full-body x-ray, so another round of antibiotics and paw soaking. Just 3 weeks ago, the same thing with her other paw. This time the vet gave her steroids for the inflammation and more antibiotics. I feel so.....bad for her, this happening with her paws & pawpads. But God Love her, she doesn't fuss when we soak her paws or act different in anyway while this is going on with her. If anyone has ever experienced this problem with any of their dogs, I would love to hear about it. Thanks, Dawn

| I am so sorry about your poor furbaby's paws. I hope it gets better. Just wanted to mention that sores on paws can also be caused by Vasculitis. (This is an auto-immune disease that is not very common, which can be caused by over vaccinating.) I have been trying to find a picture on the internet, but cannot find one easily, for you to compare. Piccolo suffered from this and her regular vet did not recognize this symptom. It is probably not, but just wanted you to have as much information as possible.

| Thank You, Des. I am praying that the infection doesn't come back in one of her paws again. 3 weeks ago when she was at the vets, the vet said he was stumped at to what is causing this to happen. He even consulted with the other vets that were there at the time from the practice while Gracie & I were there and they are stumped as to the cause also.

| My baby has had infections in the front paws. The vet shaved his paw and pads we put him on antibiotics. It clears up but then he starts chewing on them and it comes back. The vet thinks he has an allergy to something. That's why he chews them. I don't know what, we have hardwood floors and tile in the kitchen. Outside we have mostly cement but a little garden he plays in. Maybe the soil. I wish I could figure it out. I know he is miserable. Good luck.

Ashleere, what kind of dog food do you feed your dog? I know corn & corn meal in dog foods can cause them to bite & chew their paws. Did the vet reccomend any specific kind of dog food to you?
