Donating YT 7000 Club Member | The Secret Life of Bees I highly reccomend it! My mom and I just got back from the movie. Both of us read the book. I have never liked a movie after reading the book, but there was something very special about this one. ALL of the performances were incredible (Queen Latifah was my favorite). Dakota Fanning was AMAZING, as were Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, and Sophia (I don't remember her last name). It was a really incredible movie. It was a tear-jerker, that's for sure. Make sure you bring tissues! I thought it was really incredible to see how far society has come in the last 40 or so years - if you haven't read the book, a lot of it has to do with the discrimination against African Americans. Such a powerful message and SO well done. Go see it!

| Hey Megan, my daughter showed interest in seeing this film. Would you say it is appropriate for a 9 year old?

It does go into some dark things (such as a beating that one of the African American women gets). It isn't a movie FOR kids, but I think it would be a great learning experience for a kid. There are probably some clips online and they may give you a better preview to what the movie displays if you want to be sure. If you don't mind spoilers, I can PM you some more information about the movie and the kinds of things that are seen in it (I just don't want to post it here as some people may not want to know going into it).

| Good for you, Megan!! I read the book several years ago and loved it! I was so excited when I heard they made it into a movie. I can hardly wait to see it!! I, also, highly recommend it.

| I also loved the book but wasn't sure if I wanted to see the movie. I'll definitely try to see it now- I really like Dakota Fanning. Thanks for the review.

| I've never heard of it before. Now I'll have to go watch the movie and read the book. Which do you recommend I do first?

| Thanks for the review! I LOVED this book and can't wait to see the movie...although I don't think it is out yet in our area. I'm so glad the movie was as good as the book as that is not always the case. Did you read and see The Kite Runner and also Memoirs of a Geisha? I thought they did a great job on these movies as well. Oh I am psyched! Now all I have to do is talk DH into going to the movies! POPCORN!!!

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | If you liked the Kite Runner, you would probably LOVE 'A Thousand Splendid Suns" by the same author. I cried thru both of them. I bought the audio books on itunes and listened to them on my ipod at work. I also bought the movie. My husband wouldn't watch it because of the subtitles, but it was excellent too. Memoirs of a Geisha stayed close to the book, too! |

| I read the book and then I saw the movie. I loved both. I always read the book first - but I was especially pleased that they didn't change anything with the movie. It's really a great movie.
