-sour orange about 3 cups
- a couple tablespoons of black pepper
-10-15 cloves of garlic
- some oregano
-some cumin

We mix it all in the blender. Then we salt the pork, and then pour the marinade over, opening some areas with a knife and pouring it inside. We used to have a syringe so we used to inject the marinade in it but it broke. We basically cover it with the marinade. Then we pat dry the skin on the top and put butter so that it becomes crunchy. Then we cook it at 300 degrees for about 5 hours. Just keep an eye on it and it, when done the meat will literally come off the bone. The top will get bubbly and crunchy which tastes awesome. Hope this helps! If you have any questions feel free to ask.

P.S. You may have leftover marinade, put it away because it works well on anything from chicken to steaks!
I'm printing this out so I can try it! I have a question, though - what is sour orange?

Sour orange I can't really describe it without being obvious but it is like a combination between orange and lemon/lime. They normally sell it in the grocery fruit and veggie section close to the oranges. They look like oranges but they have a more coarse texture on the outside and they can either be orange or greenish orange. I know that sometimes they sell it already juiced and bottled, much like lemon juice.

I am not sure if they have it where you live since this a bit of an ethnic item, but they might!

I found this tip online, it might help!

"For recipes requiring a bitter or sour orange, a substitution may be required since these oranges may not be readily available. Use 2 parts orange juice combined with 1 part lemon juice and 1 part lime juice."

I have not tried it but it sounds like it could possibly give the flavor we are looking for.

If anything I can run to the market and see if they have some of the bottle kind and sent it to you.

Hope this helps!

Thank you - it sounds like this substitution will work. I substitute when I make a cake that calls for sour milk, so I think I'll try it!

We used to go to Indianapolis to our family's for Thanksgiving.

Last year though my mom cooked & she is this year too. She usually goes all out... turkey, ham, mashed potatos, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, mac n cheese, pies and some other stuff that I don't remember. It's ridiculous but it's all so good.

Well I'm doing an "American Thanksgiving" even though I've already got to celebrate Thanksgiving here back in October(...early, I know!). So we're having some of our Canadian friends over, so I want to make it very traditional.
-Turkey
-Stuffing(best part!!)
-mashed potatoes
-yam casserole (maybe)
-gravy and cranberry sauce
-rolls
-salad
-pecan & pumpkin pie

This is the plan so far...I'm getting some great ideas from y'all

Any holiday that involves feasting is awesome in my book!! I love seeing all the diversity in the meals! I love a traditional dinner, but I am all for throwing in some ethnic flare! I just love food, and it brings everyone together because no matter how different we are, we all love to eat!

Do you stick with traditional thanksgiving dinners, or go unconventional?
Hi I am from South Africa so we don't really do Thanksgiving although I am sure there are people who do.I have always wondered how do you cook a turkey and the stuffing. If anyone would be willing to supply me with recipes of any kind I would be thankful and then I could try to do a turkey (a small one-only three of us) etc for Christmas dinner.
