I agree... I thought it was all pretty civil and anything that wasn't was worked out, but I also only got to page 6 when it was taken away. Maybe I missed where it got bad?

Oh well I guess... it is a major thing going on in our country right now, but I can understand the forum wanting to keep the peace.

Well I am a rule follower so if it was against the rules I apologise for having participated. That said, I believe it was a very interesting thread, and it helped me realise I have nothing in common with a lot of people on this forum except the love for my dog, and to me that is a very positive thing. Sometimes antagonising positions don't let us see beyond the differences, but in this case we are all here to share our experiences with our beloved yorkies.
My Humps seems to be a political machine though, he only remains calm when I turn the newschannels on, you guys should see him right now... on the sofa facing the tv, front paws under chin and his rear legs are crossed!!!

It's something that people have such strong opinions about that it's really easy for the line of civilty to be crossed, in one opinion or another, as was evident in the two closed threads. Many found some of the comments very offensive.
There are plenty of forums out there that let you post about politics all day long, but this is YORKIE talk...it's best to just keep the peace. That way we all still have a place to go that can be enjoyed where we can escape the media frenzy and everyday life for a while.

I agree that this is yorkie talk, but we also have an off topic discussion forum for things that don't have to do with yorkies.

I prefer not to live by "it's only a matter of time," because no one really knows what's going to happen. For all we know, that thread could've remained civil. It's really not that hard to escape the threads you don't like on here...just don't read them. and I know how annoying it is to have that said to you, but it's true. IF the thread had gotten out of hand, I would've supported it's being closed 100%, but it hadn't, so it doesn't make sense to me.

On another forum I'm on, we have pages and pages of a political thread going, and we are able to keep the peace. I'm a mod on there, and there are some people who get out of hand, but the members in general are able to remain civil, and I believe the nice folks on here are able to do so, as well.

But it's alright. It's in the rules, so it's not like it was unfairly closed. It's just something I disagree with, is all.

I guess that's just the ticket...to many, it wasn't civil. Best way to not have to make judgement calls about what's over the line is to get rid of the line altogether. Yes, there are non-yorkie related discussions in off-topic, but the ones that are that highly charged are either not allowed or closed there too.
But, we can all agree to disagree about an agreement of disa..... nope, too early for that.

I wish they would do that here. That way people who want to participate can and those that dont want to dont have to. I dont think it ever will though because we have asked for a debate forum in the past for the same reason and we didnt get it.

It was civil and I agree there should be a place for it here in off topic. Its part of our everyday lives and as long as there is no name calling, cussing etc, I don't see anything wrong with discussing the topics at hand

I was up till 3am too I did feel it was a bit heated, but didn't feel anyone was being violated or hurt. I was looking forward to more talk about it today until I got the pop up saying its gone.

I didn't see any name calling, but I may have missed it.

Like I said, on the other forum I mod, people get out of hand sometimes. So what we do is we take care of those people and send them a PM/edit their post, but I don't think its fair to take the discussion away from people who are truly in it to discuss. When I joined that discussion I was pumped to talk about it with my YT friends, I didn't want name calling. With politics comes heat in any case, but the heat can be kept under control. My VERY dearest friend and I disagree on this subject, and yet we were able to watch the election together last night - debating - but without a negative word towards each other. It's really not that hard to be civil, and I honestly think that, given the chance, the majority of YT'ers would be able to handle it.
