Truvia, calorie free sweetener

I use Stevia as well. I get mine from WalMart in the Supplement section - 100 packets for under $6.00. I might have to rethink getting it at WalMart and start looking at a more reliable source like the one that Anne posted.

i've been wanting to try this too.....thanks for posting all the info. i have to remember when i go to the store to look and see if i can find it. i've been using splenda but have been trying to get away from it.

I'm the odd ball here... I just bought some this week and tried it in my coffee and I thought it had a horrible after taste!!

Maybe I need to try it again...

I buy my Stevia at my local health food/natural food store. Truvia is a form of Stevia, but "supposedly" better?! I haven't tried it yet. Another sweetner out there is Agave Nectar...but there have been some negatives on it.

I use agave nector for baking sometimes. I think it's really low on the glycemic index but still has carlories similart to sugar. I don't know that Truvia is better than stevia but I like it better than the Sweet Leaf brand.

I also grow stevia and sometimes use it when I brew tea for iced tea. I stick a bunch in with some mint or lemon verbena or whatever with the tea bags to steep. It sweetens the tea really well but it has a sort of green taste to it. I don't get that with Sweet Leaf or Stevia.

I just checked my agave nector and it has 60 calories per Tbs. I would think it's still much better than sugar because of how our bodies metabolize it though.

I am not certain why...but when I was at my local natural foods store asking for sugar replacements for my grandmother....I told them I was looking into Agave Nectar and Stevia (at the time there was no Truvia)...and they said that Stevia was the #1 pick....and that Agave Nectar had some "cons" to it...I didn't really question it....

COURSE....that was after I picked up a bottle....for myself...I haven't used it yet....guess I need to or see if they will let me exchange it....

You can use it as a replacement for recipes that call for sweet syrup like honey, corn syrup, maple syrup, etc. in the same measurments in case you don't get around to exchanging it.
