i can't even watch those PETA videos without sobbing for the whole day and getting mad at the world lol so i don't, i already know what goes on. A sprinkle (0.5 TSP) Chilli flakes.
200 grams (or 1 can) of cooked kidney beans.
200 grams (or 1 can) of cooked chick peas.
1 TSP cornflour dissolved in cold water. (optional)

Saute the onion, garlic, paprika and Thyme very gently;
Add the peppers and allow to soften without browning.
Add the remaining ingredients, and let the whole lot simmer for a good long time.
Taste for seasoning, it may need a pinch of sugar, a squeeze of lime juice, or extra Tabasco.
Serve with Lime & Coriander creme fraiche; Tip a tub of creme fraiche into a pretty serving dish. Beat it with the juice of half a Lime, pinch of salt, and a good Tablespoonful of finely chopped coriander.
Serve the Chilli in bowls, sprinkle more coriander over the top and serve with Nacho's, wild rice, Guacamole, and creme fraiche, or, just bread. who cares when the Chilli is this good?!

mmmm that sounds soooo good!!!! i LOVEEEEEEE extra spicy stuff so i have to add a lot of red pepper lol, i will let you know how it turns out when i do it, im excited to try all these!

That is crazy! I will be watching both my daughter and my soy intake a little closer. We don't eat tons of fake meat but most of the ones we do are soy based. I'm glad you were able to isolate the source- that sounds awful!

I feel the same exact way- I've seen enough to understand what goes on and I won't watch any more.

Yesterday I was in line at the grocery and the woman in front of me, the cashier and the bagging woman were talking about bacon. I wasn't really paying attention since I was far to busy reading the covers of the gossip magazines. I really didn't even know what they were talking about except for hearing brands of meat. I was wearing a tee that has a picture of a pig and says "I don't have any spare ribs". The cashier said- we like your shirt and I said oh thank you. She said, we feel guilty because we're talking about bacon. So I said well veggie bacon is really good but don't feel too bad- I'm buying chicken and steak for my husband right now. It turns out both the cashier and the bagger used to have pet pigs. They were practically fighting over who was going to tell me the next pet pig story and how sweet they were and how smart they are and all of the amazing things that they did. I just listened and said how cute but I was thinking- OMG then how do y'all EAT them??!! Even when I ate meat I couldn't have eaten an animal if I had had one as a pet. People can be funny.

OMG Nikki, I have ALWAYS wanted to own a mini pot-bellied pig!! I love piggies! They are such intelligent little creatures and I just adore them! The first meat I ever gave up was bacon. I also love rabbits and one day want to own a Netherland Dwarf bunny -- so needless to say, I've never eaten rabbit and absolutely REFUSE to cook it. Hubby doesn't eat rabbit but my father-in-law does and I will NOT cook it. He has asked me to make it for dinner a few times and I said HECK NO!! There will be no dead bunnies in my house! I don't think I would ever be able to sleep again if I ever did that! Bunnies are such gentle and TIMID creatures. They can die from a heart attack if they are scared by a hawk or other pretadors. I just love them to pieces.

I used to have a drawf lop earred bunny and he was the cutest and sweetest thing! I loved him and I'm with you- no dead bunnies in my house! I've even drawn the line on pork too because pigs really are so smart- smarter than dogs. My husband can eat it (of course) but he has to buy it and cook it.

OMG that is crazy! That's so funny that they were talking about bacon and then there you are wearing that shirt ppl are funny, like seriously i just could never eat anything i see grow right in front of me, thats like eating family. But yea they are incredibly smart animals, i was watching a segment on t.v. about them and how they are smarter than dogs. They do tricks, i have heard of them saving people from fires, all sorts of stuff. Denise Richards has a couple pet pigs. That's why i like her, she is an animal lover lol i base my reasons for liking people on if they love animals or not I remember when i was at bike camp in middle school, we visited this amish family for a day and they showed us their pig pens, they had all these mother pigs caged next to each other, side by side and their little piggy babies, they were sooo cute! I was just thinking how could they raise them, watch those little piggies grow and then eat them?? i just can't imagine! The other day i was flipping channels on tv and i turned to Nat. Geo and there was this nice little girl in France talking about how she loves riding her horses, cause her family owns horses and she thinks of them as her family and friends and she loves them, I was all thinking ohh how nice, i love horses and then 2 seconds later i see them eating them at dinner I was like WTH!! They raise them to kill them but she also rides them. It's this show called Taboo about different things people eat in different countries, it's very interesting but also gross. In some place they eat rats, its a delicacy to them and in Phillipines i think it was they eat this thing called Baloup, which is a fertile egg, they kill it at a couple weeks after everything has formed and then they cook it like a hard boiled and eat it like that with feathers and all. eww it was so gross!

I just made something new and it is YUMMY! It's an asian inspired veggie/pasta salad. Here is the recipe and I'll post my changes at the bottom. I think I'm going to double it next time it's so good. It's from Cooking Light. Asian Green Bean Salad Recipe - Vegetables - MyRecipes.com

Asian Green Bean Salad

Yield
8 servings (serving size: 1 cup)

Ingredients
Salad:
3 ounces uncooked linguine
1 pound green beans, trimmed
2 cups diagonally sliced celery
1 cup thinly sliced red bell pepper
1/2 cup (1/2-inch) slices green onions
1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Dressing:
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons dark sesame oil
2 teaspoons grated peeled fresh ginger
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 red jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped (about 1 tablespoon)
Preparation

1. To prepare salad, break linguine in half. Cook pasta according to package directions, omitting salt and fat; add beans during last 3 minutes of cooking. Drain and rinse with cold water; drain. Place mixture in a large bowl. Stir in celery, bell pepper, onions, and cilantro.

2. To prepare dressing, combine vinegar and remaining ingredients in a small bowl; stir with a whisk until blended. Add to salad; toss well. Cover and chill.

My changes:
I used 4 oz. whole wheat blend linguine and broke into thirds
I didn't use any of the veggies listed in the salad ingredients.
I used 1 bag of Birds Eye frozen broccoli, carrot, snow pea, and water chestnut mix
I didn't rinse with cold water. I've just made it ahead to eat when my husband gets home so it will be sort of room temp then tomorrow my daughter will have it cold for lunch. I really think it would be good at any temp (I just tried it hot).

It made a lot of sauce- you could easily add more veggies.

BTW, this will horrify real foodies but I use prechopped jarred garlic and ginger so with the frozen veggies this was almost no work at all.

omg i have never eaten rabbit i can say proudly lol or deer or duck thankfully. But i have owned a dwarf bunny before, they are the SWEETEST things ever!! i absolutely love them. When i buy a house and have a yard im going to get one or 2 so they can have fun and run around, i wish i could have one now but i would feel bad if it wouldnt be able to run free in the grass time to time. My grandma has eaten rabbit before and deer and talks about how she loves it. She is from Guatemala and there a lot of people eat them regularly i guess. But i hate when we are upstate and we see a deer and she jokes that she wants to kill it for dinner. She does it to bother me lol But my mom told me she had pets as a child and they would disappear and she thinks its cause my grandma would cook them. I cannot imagine, it's just horrid!!! When i went to PR for vaca to stay with my grandma i had a dwarf bunny that i had to leave there when i came back home, and because of what my mom told me i gave the bunny away to a good home and didnt leave it with my grandma lol i loved that bunny so much it would follow me like a baby

Okay we just had dinner. If anyone makes this I would suggest starting with less sesame oil. I LOVE sesame oil but it was a little much. Maybe start with 1 T.

Default Soup ...

Do you like lentil soup? I have a recipe (it's not vegan, it's vegetarian) but it's really good. This recipe makes a big batch and I usually put it in the fridge and have some every night as a side dish with one of my raw veggie burgers and it's also great on a really cold winter night.

PS - I only buy organic veggies but you can use regular ones if you like.

Lentil Soup w/ Mixed Veggies

1 Bag Lentils
1 Bag Carrots, Peeled and Chopped
1 Bag Celery, Chopped
1 Large Onion, Chopped
Chick Peas
Fresh Parsley (as much as you like)
Fresh Mushrooms, Sliced (I put a lot because I looove mushrooms -- and I do NOT use portobello in soup because they throw off a lot of water)
Peas (frozen or fresh)
1 or 2 Large Cans of Organic VEGETABLE Broth (Don't make a mistake and buy chicken broth lolol)
Bragg Seasoning (as much as you like)

Clean and chop up all of the veggies. Add to pot, along w/ lentils and vegetable broth. Simmer for 2 hours or until veggies are tender. If the soup starts to run out of liquid, add some water or some more vegetable broth.

I also sometimes add snow peas or anything else that looks food. I like A LOT of veggies in my soup -- so feel free to add anything and as much as you like. This soup is really a big hit in my family.

Now if you want to make a regular soup (like a chicken soup but w/out the chicken), I add all of the same ingredients listed above but NOT the lentils. I also add lots of fresh cilantro and everyone LOVES it! I think it's the cilantro they go crazy for because most people don't normally put it in soup but I do and I love it lol

ONE MORE TIP: I like to taste my veggies. So I don't "finely" chop them. I keep them in nice chunky size pieces and it's cool because they are tender from cooking. Hubby loves my soup because it's really thick and chunky and not watery like a lot of canned soups.
