| Excellent, V!!! We're all so proud of you and you should know you did a good thing. Some people just don't think clearly in times of crisis; they think it's too much trouble to take their pets b/c they don't know where they'll be going and in their minds, they make it so the pet will somehow be able to fend for themselves~ unless you've been thru something like this before, you just don't have a clue how completely devastating it could be and that the animals are absolutely and completely helpless and are dependent on their owners to watch over them and keep them safe. I don't think there can be too many reminders to people that they HAVE to provide for their pets no matter what size they are or what they're used to. They are NOT used to huge natural disasters and sometimes it just takes people saying it over and over. Good for you!!!!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Thanks you guys - you're embarrassing me ~ I was working on boarding up my windows with tape and trying to get my apartment ready for for Yike...I mean IKE. sorry - I'm a nervous wreck I think I have to email the AFTERNOON TV News Crew now cause I have it on.... and no mention of pets..... there really are too many people that don't give a thought to their pets that stay outside ....it breaks my heart knowing many will be left behind. They have a phrase from the last huge hurricane - "Katrina Dogs"....meaning those left behind - I do NOT want to hear about "Houston Dogs" (and cats) on the news. PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR AREA - Galveston / Freeport is already flooded and the storm is hours and hours away - I'm so worried about all of us that are 'sheltering in place' now ..It didn't seem Houston was going to be in so much trouble as of last night - today it's a totally different story. Also ....I just heard there's a boat in the gulf with NO power ...22 crew members right in the line of Ike - they can't even go out to help them because the danger is too much for the rescuers. Those poor men |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I can't either Carol - how scary for them out in the gulf all alone with no power. I'm hoping they can do some kind of air rescue. BUT - I did email the afternoon crew and just heard back from Jerome Grey of KPRC Channel 2 Houston....he's going to bring up the pets too!! (and may I mention... HE. IS. HOT.) I love this station - it's one of the top 3 in the city and the most watched I believe. |

| Yeah, Villette!! There you are!!! Also glad to hear you & your good advice got on the news. Hurricane Yikes.. I love it. Everyones animals should be top priority, because they are family. I grew up on the Tejas coast, so I'm watching this all unfold on "The Weather Channel" up here in the PacNW as I type. So you didn't have to evacuate? You'll make it sista, hope you have lots of fun snacks too to make it thru (like when I was a kid, Marshmallows were always on top of the list cuz I could still roast them on the gas range when the electricity went out. I made a "camping trip atmosphere" out of it all.) |

On The Weather Channel just now I saw a clip about making sure to bring your pets food, water, carriers, etc,... I guess we all here on YT are so pet conscious, that just goes without saying. They're #1 in our minds right along with babies & children. | |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Of course people shouldn't leave their animals....but... speaking from someone who's ridden out several hurricanes or their aftermath...the biggest problem is public shelters do not allow you to take your pets. The shelters opened by our city....are in schools or other public buildings and you can not take ANY animal. It's a liability issue... My recourse is, of course, to evacuate to someone's home inland or a motel room...but obviously many many people who don't have those options.

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I just wouldn't. I was on youtube looking at the Katrina dog videos, of all the dogs left behind, i was bawling. I read that the police told everyone they had to leave the dogs and put the guns to them, personally i would rather die with my dogs and not leave them behind. They are my babies
