| The things you do for family... Ugh... I posted before about my little cousin's bridal shower, which I ended up not going to because I felt I didn't get an official invitation. Well, I do have an official invitation to her stagette. One of her little sisters is too young to get into bars so they've decided to have the stagette at another friend's house (I'm assuming she's part of the wedding party). Anyways, on the weekend I missed a call from this girl but she left a message on my voicemail with the details.... They want each guest to bring their own drink, plus a mickey to share, plus an appetizer. This I can totally understand. They also want each guest to come dressed up as a cliche (she said "for example, a sexy french maid). UGH. For starters, what cliches are there about marriage besides being a maid? I can't think of anything else. Secondly, where would I find a costume at this time of year for a party in less than 2 weeks? And finally, I absolutely don't want to dress sexy for my little cousins and their friends This girl also asked that we bring something for Kristen (my cousin) that she has to put on as soon as she gets there. Did I mention I'm not really close to them at all? I totally want to be there for her, I'd love to actually have more of a relationship with her so I'm glad she wanted me to be invited, but I'm a pretty shy person and I can't just show up in some costume in some house where I don't know anyone! Any advice?

| That's what I thought! Another cousin of mine (who won't be attending, she lives far away) told me just to go without a costume and said she's sure not everyone would be dressed up. I think I'd like to ask some of my older girl cousins if they're going as well, so I wouldn't feel so weird and I'm absolutely SURE they wouldn't dress up! This is something I would absolutely do for any of my girl friends if they had asked me to do it. I just feel weird with it being this group of people.

Hmm because you won't know anyone there, and you will feel uncomfortable. Why not pass on this party, but plan a special surprise lunch for her with your older cousins. That way you can all be apart of this special time in her life.

| That's a great idea! I may show up at the stagette for a little while if it turns out my older cousins might also be attending. I'm pretty sure I won't dress up (unless I can put together something at home that doesn't involve "sexy"). I just don't want to be the party pooper, you know? Especially when she went to her bridal party and told them to invite me and gave them my information, I feel like she really wants me there. She doesn't know the plans at all, so she'd probably understand about me not being dressed up (I hope!)

| What about a great excuse? Just coming/going to work, appt., etc????????? That way you can "drop in" say hellos, be polite and then leave quickly, and later plan that special lunch.

| I'm not sure how many excuses I could make for a Friday night... especially after I had already said I'd go (before knowing the details!). I made an excuse for missing the bridal shower too (researching for a job interview the next morning... but it was true!)

| As for a "costume"...what if you brought along an apron and oven mitt to throw on in case everyone is all dressed up in costume? That was you can just throw it on over your regular clothes, and if no one else is dressed up, then you don't have to worry about it? Just trying to help

I think I will ask her sisters how they are dressing. It might not be as "sexy" but I could even just wear some short shorts and a tank top under the apron. I'd feel less silly than I would in a french maid costume!

That has to be a first that I hear of everyone dressing up. I would put on some cute belly shirt and a skirt. I can't see dressing up like they said to go some place... Ummm why isn't the maid of honor footing the cost of the bachelorette party and not asking folks to contribute.

| Yeah all the stagettes I've been to around here, the people going to the party don't really do anything, but they get the bride-to-be to wear a veil and... well some embarassing things. Or sometimes it's just a T-shirt and they'll all have pens to write things on the girl as the night goes on or whatever. But man, when I get married I definitely don't want anything that embarasses me too much! I'm too shy. I'd like to actually ENJOY my party! I'm my best friend's MOH and I'll be planning her stagette next year. I don't think I want to embarass her either!

| That's how I feel too. My best friend lives far from me, and far from all the other bridesmaids as well, so my idea was having a girls weekend in the city she just moved from (she still has tons of friends there) and to see if the rest of the bridesmaids would mind chipping in to pay for her share of a hotel room (I'm sure they wouldn't mind!). And we could just have FUN together. And I suppose if she wants the embarassment we could have one night of making her embarassed Anyways, that's the kind of thing I would like, and we're pretty much the exact same person (which I think is why she trusted me enough to do all this for her!)
