The beauty of quoting people is ones ability to take thinks out of context... you failed to include the line in BOLD.... "She knows that you never insult something offered to you and you always take a small amount and "try" it. And never make a face. If its just not for you, and you honestly can't stomach something, politely say no thank you." Honestly... I wouldn't eat it.. I just didn't want this to become another one of these bashing threads where posters go on a "How could they, those awful people, don't they know.... bla bla bla...." its racist and hateful when we start bashing a race, country or culture for its way of life, food, or values... they may not value the dog the way we do. And who are we to say its wrong? I think they are to be commended for ajusting their menues and in many cases changing the names of the menu items so that they are easier to read, for the visiting tourists. Its a very nice guesture! Me personally... I am on the same page with many of you as far as what I will and won't eat, I just choose not to spread the hate and bash people over things I cannot change nor is it my place to pass judgement.

I certainly wasn't bashing China for anything at all. It was a point of interest. If I were to bash China over anything it would be the melamine in the wheat gluten (which gave it a higher protein reading and thusly raised the price of it)that went into the dog and cat food that killed so many animals that ate it..... and the lead in the toys. This however, has nothing to do with culture. It has to do with responsibility. I have friends that are from different countries. I like some of the foods they eat and some of it you couldn't pay me to eat it. However, they are my friends and they are free to eat anything they like, just as I am. I have asked that they not prepare certain dishes (that they love) in my kitchen because it reeks for days. If the smell of it turns my stomach, I can't abide it. This has nothing to do with their culture. It has to do with my personal taste. And.....I still love my friends and they still love me. | ||

| I am quoting you in it's entirety. It reads as- try everything, if you don't like it decline more. I understand that isn't what you meant but please don't blame it on me selectively quoting you. Quote:

| Sammiz I am sorry to have taken part in taking your thread off track. I also think it is a nice gesture that dog was taken off menus for the olympics . I would not offer a Hindu steak and I wouldn't offer someone Jewish who observes Kosher law pork chops and shrimp so I think it was observant of the Chinese government to acknowledge the benefits of taking dog off of their offerings during the olympics.

| You have no need to apologize to me. You have done nothing that requires it. Personally, I would not eat dog. I wouldn't let anyone prepare dog in my house or eat it in my house. To me it is not acceptable. BUT...there was no intent to bash anyone. ALL people are entitled to their opinions and are entitled to state them. I believe this post went in the direction it has because some perceived bashing that wasn't there. I believe this to be a form of bashing in and of itself. Now, that's my personal opinion and I am entitled to it and entitled to 'verbalize' it. |
