YES! I was just thinking Austin, TX!! They are a very dog friendly city. I stayed at the Hyatt in downtown Austin with my doggies before. It was really really nice, good price, and only a $25.00 pet fee...but maybe they'd make us a deal.

And I LOVE LOVE the Dallas area of course...lots of stuff in Dallas like Glamour Dog!

KC was not humid at all...it was so nice. I'm so used to living in TX and yes it is hot and humid....but we were inside the majority of the time with our dogs so I don't think weather is that big of a factor here.

Also, there is no way I'd be able to go in the fall. It must be in the summer for me...I'm too busy in the fall and spring with school.

I think it would make most sense to have it in a location where there are the most YTers. Because of this, I would think NYC would make the most sense.

Some of the places mentioned have been great, but to be blunt, not everyone (including me) is going to be interested in coming to some random location where the only thing of interest is the meet up. :)

ETA: With so many people living in within say a 3-4 hour drive of New York City I'm sure a lot of people could just make a day trip out of it. If you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars on lodging, I'm sure you'd be more tempted to come.

How do we actually find out where everyone is located approximately. To get a real number. Can we do a poll or could admin pull the info?

I know someone posted about 66 members somewhere, but was that current/active members?

I always thought from reading posts that most time I come across Texas and the midwest/south area the most. Moreso then East Coast or West Coast.

Just curious to see of all the people who are active members that would participate, where are they centrally located.

Does that make sense?

I think there are a lot of TX members too. I know there is a TX group in the social group section. There are websites that create a map...people go to the site and put their info in and it makes a dot where that person is. I've seen them on myspace pages and such. Maybe someone can create one of those and anyone potentially interested in going to the next meetup could put their location in.

that is a great idea.....also why was someone just saying active members....do you mean donating members and if so dont you realize that alot and i mean alot of people that actually show up at these meet ups are not necessarily donating members....

Okay...just read through the thread...some great suggestions...

One thing that I don't think is a good idea is Texas in the summer. I was thinking fall or spring would be great for warmer places :) I mean, you have to think about people as a whole. I LOVE heat and warmth, but I'm sorry...most people don't. I don't think Texas in summer is good idea.

Secondly, I don't think NYC is a good idea either. Just because there are a lot of people there who can make a day trip out of it, the rest of us that will be coming from EVERYWHERE ELSE will spend EVEN MORE. SO yeah, some may get a great "deal" from it being in NYC but most will suffer, cost-wise.

I really think Nashville, Chicago, San Diego are all good options :)

Also, Kathy mentioned Charleston, and while I would love to have it here, I don't think it's a great idea. There aren't that many dog boutiques and flights here are VERY expensive, as compared to bigger cities....JMO :) But if y'all wanna come, you're certainly welcome :D

Well, all the suggestions sound great!!!...... I also like Mikes idea... we could have it at his house in Alaska.... I am sure that he will make room! :p And of course we all would appreciate steak on the grill with a nice salad for our dinner!!!! :p

OK....... now getting down to business:
My choices would be (in this order)
Chicago
Nashville
MICHIGAN (we could do it the same time the Yorkie Fest is and make it a nice LONG weekend....... or WEEK!!! :) ........ DOUBLE the Yorkie FUN!!! .... and probably better for the vendors!!!!)
Florida
NagsHead South Carolina
Martha's Vineyard
California
Texas (it may be a bit warm)

It would be great to have another meetup (and if you would want to do it in Kentucky.... I would consider trying to assist in getting it together). ;)

Nashville is great and there are alot of things there that are pet-friendly....

Seriously y'all, yeah FL is hot in the summer but almost everywhere is. Coastal Florida is actually usually cooler than most places in the summer- we are usually quite a bit cooler than my family in New York, Georgia and North Carolina. Our summers are really long but if you're near the coast it isn't awful. I also want to reiterate- we have a LOT of FL members.

Okay, enough campaigning from me, I promise.:D As far as time I think the summer is the best time. For those of us with children it is the easiest time to travel and many people wouldn't use short school breaks for the meet up.

no, active member as in a member that actively logs onto YT and reads/posts. There are many many inactive members whose membership remains, but they might not have even been on YT for two years.

Okay, all of you and the Texas heat...wimps...:p LOL I'm just kidding. I know it does get HOT here..very hot. I guess I'm used to it but I'm sure it would be shock to some of you in other areas. My vote is still for Texas of course though :D

And I agree about NYC. I would love to go to NYC but it is so expensive! And when I finally get to go to NYC, I want to be able to go for a whole week or two...not just a weekend for a yorkie meetup.

If you want ideal weather with no hot humid conditions, and no chance of rain, with just perfect weather, then I'd say stay on the west side of CA. Anywhere else your going to take your chances with wet, cold or humid weather.

Weather wise, you just can't beat San Diego. I love, love, love that entire area and there is just so much to offer and they have an entire beach devoted just for the doggies!!!!! There is camping on every single beach along the Pacific coast highway for anyone wanting this option also.

One thing I suggested on my evaluation was that at least one more day added to the agenda is a MUST!!! I was also thinking that the group could hire a dog sitter in a central room of the host hotel (for example, Lisa, Des, Cyndi and I rented a "suite" and it would have been perfect for this) for the better part of a day and we could have a tour of the city for those attending. This was anyone interested would get a chance to see the sights, it would still be as a group so we can continue to get to know each other (as opposed to everyone going their own way ie; Disney) but we wouldn't have to worry about the tour being dog friendly - particularly if there are stops along the way - and no one would need to worry about leaving the furbutts unattended in their hotel room.

Of course, I would also love to visit a city I haven't been to also...........

I would love to go so here's my opinion:

For beautiful weather you can't beat New England in the summer or Fall. It's not as expensive as California or NYC.

Boston is not that expensive and there is tons to see. Logan is a hub airport.

Portland Maine is a very dog friendly city, is inexpensive, the city is hip and funky yet there are tons of beautiful campgrounds within 15 minutes of the city. Logan would be cheaper to fly into and it's only 1.5 hours away or you could fly into Portland. That's my lobbying!! :D

I also like the idea of Gaitlinburg :)

I love Vegas, but it wouldn't be very dog friendly!
My brother's friends brought their dog when we were there last fall and they had an awful time trying to find a place to accept pets! Not to mention it's sooo hot in the summer to be outside with them!

I would love somewhere around Chicago, NC maybe, I bet there is even some nice places to go to in Michigan again!

You can do "surveys" here......but I think that listing all the states would make the thead very long. I guess one could be done listing "clumps" of states.
