My personal vote would be for San Diego or NYC - both are very dog friendly cities. NY is definitely more expensive, but CA is not. Hotels in the San Diego region are priced just like anywhere else and the whether is fairly constant and not ungodly hot either. Food and shopping is also just like other areas, though there are some really great specialty boutiques. Also, in that area - usually the most you may have to deal with is wildfires and they tend to stay more northern than San Diego. Vegas is definitely NOT a dog friendly city. I've never been to the Tampa area, so I can't really comment on that. But, I think Orlando is overdone and the various attractions (Disney, Sea World, Universal) are definitely not dog friendly. Chicago would be really fun and you always have the option of the lake front also. An East Coastish destination such as West Virginia might also be nice, just not a city I'm familiar with. I also think Nashville would be a great location. But, for me - ultimately it doesn't matter where the next one is as I plan to be there regardless!!!!!!!!!! |

Kansas City was great. We would just like to change the location each year, so we're not always going back to the same place. |
I think your going to get the same people all the time.. this is really a good idea.. and I would love to go to one.. But I will not go where it is stifling hot that one cannot enjoy the parks, or better still the dogs are too hot to even have fun..I just want others to think as I am speaking here.. I am doing it if I would go or if I would not go.. I also think many are choosing very expensive places.. they are not thinking it is not only the flight people pay for .. then there is the hotel.. drinks, eating... but most love to shop.. I do not think it should be in a congested area where people have a harder time going places due to parking.. for those who take a camper or drive..it is nice to be able to get around. If this was to take place in the winter time then of course a warmer climate would be wanted.. if you did this in the winter.. you might get more people really wanting a winter break for themselves and the dogs.. If it is summer.. heat is a huge thing to think about..would you rather put on a sweater or would you rather leave the dogs in the rooms and be in a pool visiting.. I am just trying to think of these sort of things.. I do not care where it is.. if I can go I would love to try.. I am in canada so it really makes no difference to me in the end.. I just get to see other places if I can go..but with my dogs.. we do travel motorhome only.. unless I take one dog and go solo... which could be done.. just have never in 29 years went off alone.. I really hope there is one thing that makes sense in this.. if so I will be happy.. I am not posting for a confrontation neither.. I think it is wonderful it is being thought of earlier.. and the idea of getting people prior to booking is another good idea.. I am going to love this thread...anne |
I don't have a preference on where we have it, just that we have one :) It would be kind of nice to decide sooner rather than later and that way people can start saving/budgeting. I love Florida, have not been to Texas in a while but wouldn't mind a visit, never thought of NY but I would be game, and since we're throwing out ideas, I love Charleston! I have no idea of the cost, etc but what a wonderful place to visit and similar to KC where you can walk around the town :) |

I agree...the sooner the planning, the better. I think the date for this year was picked (June 21st) because it was before "summer", right after schools let out, etc. I am sure KC was humid, but the pictures at the park didn't show it. I think a Fall date would be good...BUT that means, children are back at school, etc. Fall, the weather MAY be nicer...but not always....Fall could mean more rain or more hot weather (it just depends). I think some places are fairly reasonable on price...like Tulsa and maybe DFW or so.... Some one brought up camping and/or lodge....I think the camping part would be fun, but not everyone has a camper....and if the campground has a lodge, that maybe expensive too...and what else would there be to do that is close by? |
I was thinking maybe Northern CA, but San Diego sounds good too. I agree that Las Vegas would be too hot. Another idea is Seattle. We visited there a few years ago, and it was gorgeous. |
How about somewhere in N. Carolina? They have beaches, shopping, etc. Any major airports there? |

Anchorage, Alaska. Lots of open space for the dogs to run around. Not too hot. Not too cold (in summer). And it's very cost effective -- for me! Of the ones mentioned, I'd vote San Diego. |
I would so be there!!! I love Alaska Quote:

Southwest doesn't allow pets to fly!!! |
Then it's settled. We locate a Yorkie-loving benefactor to rent us a cruise ship, and we all sail to Alaska for the next meetup. The benefactor will kindly pay for our two months of lost wages. :) |
There are 66 people from Indiana on YT so I would vote for Chicago (if it wasn't right in Chicago, preferably south of) or Indianapolis. Both have major airports and lots to do. |
First of all I would like to congratulate all those who had a part in planning this year's event. A special thank you is in order to Sukoshi for her countless hours and tireless efforts at making this event the huge success that it was. I was not able to attend, primarly because of my broken leg. For my :twocents: I don't think there is a perfect location for the meet-up nor a perfect time of year. We are a huge diverse group of people with different interests. Some love the big city atomosphere, night life and shopping, others (me included) would prefer a more quiet and less formal atmosphere. I would prefer reserving space at a quiet resort for a Yorkie "get away" - Breckenridge, Colorado would be nice (47 miles from Denver) or Gatlinburg, TN (34 miles from Knoxville). I think that their should be a few diverse options, and a vote. In order to vote I think members should put up a small "fee" that is non refundable so that only those really interested in making the trip would vote. The voter fee would be applied to the over all expense of the trip. If each member paid a $10.00 fee and l00 people voted that is a quick 1,000 towards the cost of the event. It wouldn't bother me to donate $10. even if I didn't get to go. My hat is off to anyone who bites the bullet to organize the next meetup. |

jen just to answer one question.. koa is not cheap but they have cabins always.. when I say not cheap I mean for a campground..but cheaper then hotels..lol anne |
I saw someone said Colorado...that sounds good to me as well as San Diego, No. California, Miami (I heard Miami is very dog friendly) or NYC! The other place I thought of is Arizona because it is so pretty there in the Spring and Fall. |
Florida, Florida, Florida for me!:D There is tons to do in Orlando and West Palm and Miami are both very dog friendly. We also have lots of Florida members. Our last Florida meetup had a really good turn out even though it was cold and windy. |
OF COURSE!! I will vote florida too!! I know everyone prefers summer but what about a holiday weekend? The spring and fall are so beautiful here. Sunny, high 70's with cool breezes! Beautiful lush green everything with bright birds of paridise and hibiscus. Not to mention yummy dinners on watersides/ beaches. Run your toes/paws thru the sugar sand of the gulf of mexico..mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm It's not a bad place!!:D |
I think SLC would be GREAT but thats because Im here... lol but other then that I like the whole Texas or Florida idea... |
Chicago! |
