| HELP! I leave tomorrow... I am leaving for my home state of maryland tomorrow morning, and i have an antique metal suitcase that i got from the flea market and i would love to pack my things in it. does anyone know anything about whether or not the airlines allow this? I looked deep and hard, called, and wrote emails to the airlines inthe past week and i have only found restrictions on size and weight. I guess this doesnt come up in normal conversations about checked luggage tho. What do you guys think? My stuff is packed in my antique suitcase right now... should i switch it to my duffle bad? Please let me know what you think!

The machines they check luggage with will not be able to 'see inside' a metal suitcase. If there is any other way you could do it, I certainly would. Ship that suitcase and 'carry' another. Just my opinion, mind you. The hassle of all the checking would be a definite turn off for me. Have a safe and fun trip! | |

| Being as we aren't allowed to 'lock' our suitcases anymore, it would seem logical to use it...Afterall, if they do x-ray it and can't see thru it (if it's lead),they will just open it and look inside..They are looking for bombs and things, not an antique suitcase....Will it withstand the airport crew throwing it???? I once watched the baggage crew throw baggage and a stroller in the baggage area..wow...

| its a pretty banged up suitcase, but im sure it can be thrown without being in worse shape... after all it is metal! the metal snaps on it are really strong too.

| should you roll up your duffle bag inside the suitcase just in case? But I'm sure you'll be fine...

| Well I dont know if they restrict you from using that, but there is a weight restriction on luggage of 50lbs. I don't know how heavy your suitcase is but packed it may be more than the max of 50lbs and you may end up having to pay more for it. Other than that, I dont think they would say NO you cant take that. Have a great trip home!!!
