I've honestly never thought about it. I'm sure there is something that could be done, even if on a local level. My wife and I donate clothes and money to the local animal shelter here. They sell the clothes in monthly yard sales they have there. I know that's not fighting puppy mills but like I said, I've never really thought about it.

Judy I have bought tee shirts for my daughter and I have a puppy mill bumper sticker on my car from HSUS but that is all I can lay claim to sadly. At one point my daughter and I were talking about ordering their informational brochures on puppy mills and asking if we could leave them at local vets' offices, groomers and places like that but I have to admit we didn't follow through. I still think it's a good idea but I don't know if it's the BEST way to spend $25. I'm hoping someone comes up with a fantastic idea and then I'll borrow it too.

I just want to do more than I'm doing. I can tell people every day, but I'm not sure how much of an impact that's having, and when we talk about it on YT, we're really preaching to the choir. The people who don't know about puppy mills are the people who aren't on YT.

And sure, borrow any ideas and run with them!

I think it would be so neat to get business cards with "Stop Puppymills!" on one side and then on the reverse side you could list the name of websites (since practically everyone has access) that explain puppy mills and how to help. That way you could give them out to people you meet everywhere and then give them a couple to pass along to people they met and so on and so forth.

I also think that starting a local group is a great idea. (Hmmmm maybe you could make the business cards for your local group?) I know that a local group with a website is a great idea. Many people just simply don't like to contribute to what they see as a huge agency but would gladly give to a local cause (maybe thats just a Southern thing).

I agree about the bigger organizations. On the one hand, they seem too big and impersonal and on the other hand, there is strength in numbers. With that many resources at their disposal, maybe they can get more accomplished than small, local groups?

Hmmm but maybe if the local groups were part of the larger group? Like the Girl Scouts. Local troops who funneled up to a larger agency?

Very good point.

The local organizations for the HSUS are our local humane societies, right? Maybe we could each work through the people/ society in our area? And give our local puppy mill action groups local names, but they would still be under the supervision of the humane society?

That might fly, but it would need to be run by each local board of directions for approval I would think.

Definitely something to research.

We spent 3 weeks going from one school to another to educate the young men and women about how bad puppymills are . It was very impressive to see how the youth cared about the little ones and asking several questions . We took some of our little rescued one in classrooms . If all go well , we will be able to continue to go from school to school next year too .

When I started this thread, I was mainly thinking of charities to donate to, but you have inspired me to do much more.

I decided last night to make pendants promoting awareness of the puppy mill issue. They are conversation starters in themselves, the listing has a lot of important information, and 60% of the price will be donated to the HSUS Puppy Mill Education Fund. Another 20% will be donated to other animal charities, and the rest of the money will go into replenishing supplies.

I will also make some of these and donate them to animal charities locally for raffles and other prizes.

Here are my first two. PM me if you have any suggestions for improvement.

Hmm, well if it were mine and only my $25 I would donate to a group that works to shut mills down. NOW if it were a lot of people who only had $25 then we could all put our money together and higher someone that could fight to get the laws changed in shutting the mills. $25 times thousands of people donating the same amount could do a lot of good.
