What do you eat that makes others go "eee-ew!!" There are so many things that I will not eat. Doesn't matter how hungry I am, either. Starving is preferrable to eating some things. I will not eat fat or chicken skin. However, being from the deep south, I LOVE grits. NOT eaten the 'yankee' way with sugar and milk. I would throw that in the trash. :D Salt and butter only for me. Some folks don't care for it (like my two grandsons) and some love it with me (like my granddaughter). I also LOVE boiled peanuts and others won't even try them. But if they did.....they would love them! So what do you eat that disgusts other people? Got any weird tastes? My son-in-law eats something called scrapple, which I had never heard of until one of my Jersey trips. UGH!! |
My grandfather like scrapple, I have no idea whats in it. He also likes limberger cheese, he has no taste, or smell aparently :D I love stewed gizzards over rice. Most people just go eww. I have had oyster stew since I was a kid, hubby won't go near it. Hubby won't touch liver, and I agree with him. We also hate brussel sprouts. |
[QUOTE=tigerelsker;2036724]My grandfather like scrapple, I have no idea whats in it.[QUOTE] Scrapple is typically made of hog offal, such as the head, heart, liver, and other scraps, which are boiled with any bones attached (often the entire head), to make a broth. Once cooked, bones and fat are discarded, the meat is reserved, and (dry) cornmeal is boiled in the broth to make a mush. The meat, finely minced, is returned, and seasonings, typically sage, thyme, savory, and others are added. The mush is cast into loaves and allowed to cool thoroughly until gelled. The proportions and seasoning are very much a matter of the region and the cook's taste. Now if this doesn't make someone go 'eeee-ew' then nothing will. :D |

Oh you are my kind of girl!:) I looove grits! I grew up eating them like you with salt and lots of butter. Also sometimes with a fried egg. We also did cheese grits and now as an adult I love them as a dinner side dish with lots of garlic and cheese! I think it's funny that so many non-southerners think grits are gross but will eat polenta- it's ALMOST the same thing! Why is one chic and the other is icky? |
Hmmmm ever heard of century egg, sambal belacan, bak kut teh or durian, the king of fruit? I love all of those and they are food that a lot of people will stay away from!!! Hubby is scared to death of all of those! hhahhaa Century egg is a Chinese cuisine ingredient made by preserving duck, chicken or quail eggs in mixture of clay, ash, salt, lime, and rice straw for several weeks to several months. After the process is completed, the yolk becomes a dark green, cream-like substance with a strong odor of sulfur and ammonia, while the white becomes a dark brown, transparent jelly with little flavor or taste. The transforming agent in century egg is its alkaline material, which gradually raises the pH of egg from around 9 to 12 or more. |

So as it now stands, you are way far ahead. I doubt anyone will be able to top that one. :p Let's just wait and see. You now hold the "Master of EEEe-ew" throne. :D |
The only thing I can really think of is that I eat grilled cheese with ketchup. :p |

When I was a child and it was slaughter time, I would come home to a place that 'reeked' of the chitlin' cooking process. It made me gag. There was no respite anywhere else either. Every relative was cooking the same thing. I would just stay outside for as long as possible. My mom at lots of 'weird' stuff like that. Including, but not limited to, pickled pigs feet. Oooooohhhh my gosh!! I couldn't be around to eve see that! |

For the most part I am a very picky eater but when I put ketchup in my yellow rice a lot of people near me will go ewwww~ I dont care...I love it! |

That one just doesn't qualify for making someone go eeeeee-ew. I know of kids that must put ketchup on everything they eat. |

I LOOOOVE boiled peanuts!! i hated them when I first tried them...I guess because I was expecting a crunchy peanut. but once I got past the expectation, I was HOOKED!! I make them all the time :D I also love sauerkraut. IMO...a hot dog is not a hot dog without it :D I also love white gravy. I am the only one of my friends that will eat it...and one of my friends actually wants to vomit when I eat it in front of her LOL I was raised on biscuits and gravy hehehe this isn't an "ewww" thing, but I can sit and eat a lemon like it is an apple. I LOVE fresh lemons!!! |
I love crayfish! When I used to eat pork, I loved fatback. I like chocolate milk and cheese together. :p |

I can't understand about those not eating white gravy. That's pretty southern and we all ate it when I was in Tennessee. It is great with sausage in it over biscuits. For the boiled peanuts....I am having trouble getting some green ones to boil. Californians don't do boiled peanuts. I found an on-line source of 8 pounds for about 28.00 but when I sent an inquiry via the website I received no response. I wish I still knew some peanut farmers. Out here it is funny....many people have no idea that the peanuts are formed underground. They think they grow on peanut trees, I guess. My best friend didn't quite believe me when I told her that. She thought I was teasing. |

My mother put fatback in nearly everything she cooked that had liquid in it. Ugh, for me. I hate fat. What kind of cheese do you like with your chocolate milk, Kyle? Inquiring minds want to know. :p |

Did the rest of your family go with you on eating no meat or are they still carniverous? |

My daughter stopped first. Then sort of started back. Then we both stopped. My husband still eats meat. My meat loving husband actually eats a lot less meat now- by his choice. |
I LOVE LOVE LOVE grits with garlic and ketchup. I do something with my food that usually grosses people out, I mix it all together, regardless of what it is. I never eat my food separated and usually just eat it all in a bowl with a spoon. |

ETA- grits and ketchup? Ewwwww! |
Ohhh I love me some grits. With salt. I am originally from West Texas and My BF (who grew up in NY) thinks they are the nastiest thing ever. I also love to dip my peanut butter jelly sandwiches in milk. Please tell me somebody out there has done this, it is sooo good!! |
Hm...lets see... I eat ketchup on my scrabbled eggs and on mac and cheese. I also take Romen noddles and break them into small pieces and put the pieces in a zip lock bag with the flavor and mix it up and eat it without cooking it. I like scrapple. I know what it is and I still like it mostly because it doesn't taste bad. |

I just can't seem to mix grits with anything other than butter unless it is an egg. So....we still haven't had anyone beat the Century Egg. :p C'mon. I know somebody is just not 'fessin' up. |
