| The red "dye" that is a natural coloring for Mother Nature can trigger many auto-immune responses. Tomatoes, red apples, red grapes to name a few. I, too have migraines..that is why I was not posting-I was sick in BED! For 4 days. I am a tough ole bird, seriously, but they knock me flat. LIght, sound, repetitive sounds, the mention or smell of foods wil prompt an episode of vomiting. The ache does really let up for a short while after that. MSG(also known as Accent) is another trigger, and is also known as hydrolized vegetable protein. FOOD TENDERIZER, WHEN USED UNFLAVORED, IS NOT MSG!! Caramel colorings in such things as sauces in cans, gravy etc have a similar compound. I started with them at age 11. Traumatic childhood was a factor in the frequency. BUT, there was an emotional component. When I got sick, my dad would come to my Granny's house and bring me a piece of ice, tomoato juice but the creme de la creme was a Hershey bar all of my own. I really spent a long spell when I didn't have them. But, since I have had so many debilitating episodes, I get the more often. If you don't have a heart or blood pressure problem, you can take acetamenophin 500 mgm 2 tabs every 6-8 hours AND take the old fashioned "No Doz" tablets. It was used to keep drivers awake when they are drivers. Take 100-200 mgm with the other stuff. I had a doc in the employee health unit that I ran who had terrible migraines. He could not leave his clinic so he said to consider the words as orders and to give him some of that damned stuff. He took 2 doses in about 3 1/2 hours and went home as usual..Ice on the back of the neck might help. Ice on top of head or forehead might help. Soothiing scents; accupuncture; acu-pressure in the temples work well; One should always check with ones doc to make sure the stimulant is okay BEFORE you take anything. Hope some of these things give you at least, some different approaches. Last edited by whispersmom2; 07-28-2005 at 10:15 PM. |

| Ok here is something I have been thinking about. When she has a migraine, does it go away when the sun goes down?? When I was younger and I would get them, they would last all day until the sun went down. (I know this sounds weird, but its true) With my migraines, no over the counter medicine will work, I suffered for many years. Then I moved to Florida and got a new MD. She put me on Imitrex. Its a life saver. Of course you wouldn't want to put your daughter on meds if she doesn't have to. But its truely a wonderful medication. When I have migraines sometimes I have to throw up (which means I can not keep the pill form of the medication down) I throw up everthing, even the water I use to rinse out my mouth from brushing my teeth. But now I have the injection type (statdose) and within 15 minutes, the pain is gone! I still have to lay down, but after an hour or 2 I'm GREAT! Another thing to check into is the pollen counts, Keep your self as record of her migraines and the pollen count in your area, You might find a connection. Keep us informed about your daughter. Hope you find some relief for her!

Jesscruz, I am so sorry for your daughter. I get migraines too and I have never figured out what trigger them but I agree that Excedrin Migraine is the only thing that works for me and I have prescription medicine. I am not sure if a child can take it though.

| I don't know if I get migranes but i do get headaches. I get different headaches from different things and i have to figure out what kinda headache I have to find what to take to get rid of it. I have problems with my sinuses so humid whether makes them flare up and i get sinus headaches. I get PMS headaches (really bad). Stress headaches. headaches from my back being out. If i get more than one kind of headache at the same time i'm incapacitated. i also get headaches when i'm dehydrated. Caffeine can be a major trigger of headaches that's why chocolate, coffey and pop can give you headaches. I would keep a journal. In the journal I would write down the weather, pollen count, humidity, everything she ate, everything she drank, everything she did, the amount of time spent outside and any other factors that you can think. Then write down if she gets a migrane or not. hopefully after a couple of months you will notice a pattern and then can adjust her lifestyle based upon that. The medication might also be giving her headaches. I got the worst migrane of my life from migrane medicine because it dehydrated me. Just some suggestions if you can pinpoint the exact causes she may be able to live a life in less pain. I really feel for her. Wish her the best for me.

| For migraine sufferers.....I've had them for years. I tried Imitrex, and also many over the counter pills. Last year my doctor gave me a new med. It's called Relpax, and it's an absolute godsend. Unlike Imitrex, you can take it after the migraine starts. When I take the pill, 90% of the time my migraine is gone in about half an hour. Now that I take Relpax, don't know how I lived without it. |

| That sounds like something I should look into. Do you know if it affects your blood pressure? I have one question for you about imtrex??, Did you ever try imtrex after you had a migraine?? Because I almost always take it after the migraine has started. I have even taken it when the migraine was in full bloom. And it has always worked for me..

I'm not sure if it affects blood pressure, that would be a good question for my doctor though. I'm glad Imitrex is working for you--it's nice when you find something that does. I just never seemed to have luck with it. My doctor has said that Relpax (which is a fairly new drug) is working really well for a lot of people. Not sure what the side effects are compared to Imitrex. Sorry I couldn't be more help | |

| I really feel for your child. I've had migraines all my life and so have my 4 sisters and mom. I've been through all the otc medications and nothing was working. I finally saw my doctor and now have meds for it. Fioricet, butalibital (generic) and zomig have been working for me. I just called in today for a new prescription. I can only get 20 tablets at a time. I'll have to ask about the Relpax if I end up going into the doctor's office for a new checkup. At 43, I can say that the only time I've been without my headaches is when I was pregnant for my children. Best of luck!
