| Misty, that is so awful for your little girl.......I hope her fears get better with time......can the doctor or pharmacist recommend a cream to help with the scar?...Sometimes when they are fresh the scar can be lessened...... Welcome back and I hope things get better in the coming days for you and all of your family.....

| Wow Misty...I'm sorry to hear about your daughter. My son was also attacked when he was close to her age by a neighbors cocker spaniel. He was actually with the adult neighbor and they were giving her treats when out of the blue she lunged at my son and had him by the neck before anybody knew what was happening. He had to be taken to the hospital and received 10 stitches. We were afraid he would be scared of dogs afterward, but he never seemed to be, though I must say he isn't a big fan of cocker spaniels I hope that you have a nice relaxing vacation! I think that you and your family deserve it!

| Welcome back! sorry to hear about your daughter and hope she continues to do better and better with each day. May I ask: What happened to the dog? I would hate for your daughter to get a panic or anxiety attack whenever she sees it from now on....I'm sure you're doing all you can and need to for her. Best wishes & to you and your family! Glad you came back to check in tho also

| Thanks to everyone for the kind words. They are very comforting. I'd been meaning to answer some PMs and update some people earlier, but just never had the time. The surgeon who will be seeing her for a while recommended Mederma several times a day. (And let me tell you...that stuff is EXPENSIVE! $25 for a little bitty tube that you have to use several times a day!) He said the most important thing we can do now is to make sure she has a little sun exposure as possible--none ideally. So she is NOT too happy about that! He said it could cause damage and leave it a dark purple that cannot be corrected. He is pretty optomistic that over time it will heal and she won't need surgery...so it's just a waiting game now I supppose. Right now it's just that fresh scar dark pink color. I think we're all just frustrated because it's to the point that there is no noticeable, day to day improvement. As for the dog, the owners still have it. Let me just take this time to say that the coordinated efforts of the county health dept and the hospital SUCK in this county and no one did what they were 'supposed' to do given the circumstances. I would go into the details about the whole situation as it currently stands, but really can't at this time. (For legal reasons.) There are alot of things in limbo right now. But in short, no, she never sees it and never will again. Nor do I, nor will my husband. Last edited by Wylie's Mom; 05-05-2008 at 02:03 PM. |
