Trust me, it wasn't because I wanted to be! At this point, I decided to both take a break and focus my attention at home where is was needed most...
On the evening of March 8, my 7 yo daughter was attacked by a friend's dog. A lab, a dog she's been around for ages. The dog lunged at her and latched on to her face. She screamed and as we pryed her hands from her face, the sight was sickening! As we rushed her to the hospital, she started going into shock in my lap--shaking uncontrolably and not responding when we were talking to her. Once there, they sedated her, deadened the side of her face and I stood there helpless as they sewed up her face while she was panicked and talking out of her mind.
For a few days afterwards at home, she didn't want to eat or talk to anyone. Those were the hardest days of my life!
For now is healing as good as can be expected. At first she didn't seem bothered at all, now, I'm not so sure. We've noticed that she seems very unsure of larger dogs, to be expected I guess. She has a few small scars under her eye from teeth puncture wounds, but they are fading fast. She has a pretty significant scar across her cheek now that *hopefully* will heal over time, but...we've seen several plastic surgeons and they've told us that we need to realize correcting it within the year may be needed.
Kids being kids she's had some mean comments at school. I sit everyday to pick her up praying that she won't come out in tears because of something someone has said to her. I will be so glad when school is out for the summer!
So, add that to changes at work, a MIL w/ failing health thus creating and upset, stressed and worried hubby, a father who gave us a scare w/ some heart conditions, and trying to take care of odds and ends around the house that had been put off for way too long and I've definately had my hands full...too full to worry about--how to put this nicely--'inquiring minds.'
THANKS to those of you who knew what was going on (few did) that have sent words of encouragement--it has been very appreciated! Hopefully things are getting back to normal now (lol...if there IS such a thing)!
One thing is for sure, I am definately looking forward to our vacation in a few weeks. If I decide to stay there and never come back, I hope you all understand! :p
