| a little annoyed... I know I shouldn't be, but I just can't help it. I graduate Saturday May 10th. No one in my family, other than my mom is bothering coming. I'm the first college grad on all sides of my family. I'm proud of myself even if no one else is. On Sunday May 11th (mothers day), my great nephew is being "dedicated" at the church. I REALLY do not want to travel 3 hrs away just to see him be "dedicated" but MOM wants to go (its her first great grandchild) and I feel bad for not spendng the day w/ her. Everyone is acting like I'm being a butt for not wanting to go.. but why should I? He hasn't done much of anything (other than being a cute baby). I've worked my butt off the last few yrs to get through and pay for college on my own.., yet no one wants to come.

| I totally know how you feel. I graduated last may and I didn't even walk because my brother's wife had their first baby like 2 weeks before then and my graduation (after 6 years of working my way through school) was totally overlooked. But I can tell you this. I was feeling really down when I graduated because I felt like it wasn't that big of a deal (mostly due to my family's lack of enthusiasm), and didn't really feel like something to be proud of. But now, I can say that I am a college graduate, I am college educated, I completed a goal that I set out to do. And no matter what anyone else says about it, I have that degree. And it feels good to know that I finished what I started, and it wasn't a waste of money or time. Congratulations Stormy. You worked long and hard to get here, and you deserve to feel good about your accomplishment.

| Hey girl~ HUGE congrats to you!!! What you're doing is IMPORTANT in YOUR life and you should def. take part and totally ENJOY the moment (or day or whatever..)...you've EARNED it. I think I"d make sure to take TONS of photos and then take them with you to the dedication (Im not sure what that is...is it kind of like a baptism?) and tell everyone you knew how much they wanted to BE there and couldn't, so you brought the photos so they could celebrate with you too, LOL. Again, congratulations on a job well done!!!!

YT 500 Club Member | I know how you feel also but first I would like to say Congrats! When I gradauted high school a lot of my family members did not come but made it their business to go to my other cousins graduation. I still feel sour about it but I know I will not be sending out invites to them for my college graduation in Jan. Also just them not caring is just what I need to succeed more and know I have accomplished something that they do not have the guts to do.In my opinion a graduation is far more of an accompishment than being dedicated. I would travel miles for a graduation but dedication, nah. I wish you the best in your career!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | We're proud of you! I know the feeling. You're really at a crossroads in your life and have taken a huge step with an education. You deserve a celebration. But, hey, you know how it goes. Everybody is busy with their own lives and don't have the time. I remember having to beg my Mom and Dad to go to mine, but it meant the world to me when they did. It was probably boring for them, but they knew it meant a lot to me. Too bad more people don't understand.

| Congratulations!! My husband and I are graduating too! Don't be ashamed of it taking you 6yrs... it took my husband 8! and it took me 5. I'm sorry that your family seems more interested in a dedication for someone who won't even remember it. Both my hubby and I are first generation college grads as well and very proud of it. Just go to the dedication with your head high and DEFINITELY show off your pictures. Again, congratulations!! |

| I was GLAD I took 6 years to finish college! My gpa would have been much worse if I hadn't! Plus, I worked full time through school. Didn't you work your way through college as well? Some people take 10+ years to finish a degree! Heck, I'm going back to school in the fall for 3 more years and 2 more bachelor's degrees. I will be able to say I spent 9 years in undergrad! LOL! I'm glad everyone is giving supportive feedback! Looks like we all have been in similar situations! Congrats to all grads this year!!!

| Well, congratulations to the both of you Stormy and labrown. You should be proud of yourselves. I totally know how you feel though. I didn't even go to my ceremony 'cause no one was coming in my family. My high school graduation, my grandmother died so my mother didn't go to that either. (She was in another country and I never met her). But, at least I have all that behind me and I was proud of myself for getting myself thru school, that was what was important!:
