Now you guys can say Im wrong for judging all pitts by that one incident but believe me it was enough in my eyes. This dog was raised with the little girl, in a nice loving home...still went to attack her. Thank god nothing happen but now the pitt...is gone. I would never trust it...never
I am in total agreement!! Read about my son's girlfriend's horse that was attacked!!! By the way Trixie is healing very well!

My opinion is that one breed of dog cannot be put together to be judged. Its like saying all Chis are snappy, all yorkies are yappers. Or, to get more personal, saying all Mexicans are illegal, all rich people are snobs, all African Americans are hoodlums, etc. One whole group/breed/race cannot be judged based on the deeds or actions of the others within it.
Your jumping a bit overboard............yorkies "are" yappers
Pitbulls were bred to kill and to have a high tolerance to pain. It's kind of like taking a wolf to raise as a pet. Ya just never know what will happen. They are unpredictable. Most dogs "do" have their distinct personalities, and even if they are raised "properly" it won't take that away from them. There are exceptions to all breeds, but the general rule still applies.

^Yorkies aren't all yappers. Its bred into them, but they don't all yap.

Kind of like how aggressiveness is bred into pit bulls, but they aren't all aggressive.

The general rule applies to everything, but the general rule isn't an excuse to take away peoples' babies and kill out a beautiful breed.

Im glad Trixie is healing good, I missed that thread where you explained what happened. It is so sad that innocent children, animals and adults are getting hurt by these dogs...any dogs really. Im telling you, if im walking down the street and I see any big dog...my kids and I always cross the street.

I had 2 pit bulls growing up. They were awesome dogs TO US. Our first one ended up dragging our live bull into our neighbors basement through the double outside doors, destroyed the basement. Had to be put down. Second one tore up 2 of our neighbors. My parents were always responsible pet owners. They bred and showed dobermans when I was young, and before I was born And we had a farm as well. Our dogs were never mistreated.
My good friend from high school has a pit bull that is wonderful with her family. Unfortunately one of her good friends had to have 100 staples put in her head because she playfully pushed my friend goofing around in the livingroom of my friends house. The dog then attacked her.
Last story. Last year my mother in law walked up from the creek in her backyard with 2 of her grandkids, only to be met by the neighbors 2 pits on her front porch. She told the kids to go to the back slider and go in, but when they did, the dogs chased them. My mother in law ran after the dogs, and ended up almost having her calf ripped off. I have no idea how those dogs were raised to attest to the treatment of them prior.
These are just stories of personal experiences and doesnt even touch on all of the local headlines of pit bull attacks.
My firm belief is that this breed of dog should not be bred any longer. I dont believe they should all be euthanized, but I do not believe it is fair to the dogs or to people to have them. I think their is too much wrong with them mentally. They can be good for very very responsible owners, but there are far more owners not qualified to own them that do. Accidents can happen with any breed, obviously, but if you really get down to the facts, this is a very dangerous breed. Its like russian roulette having a pit bull IMO.

I have seen pitbulls that are very sweet and loving. I think it's all about proper training.

My daughter and son-in-law have a partial pit, and he is the most gentle dog I have ever been around. He may knock you down (because of his size and strength) and lick you to death.. but that is all. He is a truely gentle giant. They have 5 children and a day care. And he loves ALL of them.

But, I have heard the horror stories about pitts (and other breeds). One happened in our old neighborhood. Several years ago, a 4 year old girl, was attacked by a pit bull. (Neighbors saved her, Thank God.) He almost killed her. She had to have several surgeries to put her face and head back together. She did nothing to him... he just attacked.

Will I ever have a pit? No. Do I trust them? No. (Except for my daughters.) But then, I do not trust any dog I do not know.

well...i can't think of one word..but I would say "taken care of improperly."

My parents have a red nosed pitbull and he is the best dog ever!! I really wanted a pitbull actually, but my boyfriend wanted a small dog, so we got Jacoby instead!

I still plan on adopting a pitbull in the future. You just have to make sure you assert yourself as the pack leader so they know who is in charge, and give them the proper exercise! I think those pitbulls who end up biting their owners are not cared for properly and they do not trust and respect their owners.

ya'll reminded me today of my old house 'neighbors' - they were keeping a pitt for their daughter and that pitt CHEWED A HOLE Thru my fence to 'get at' my girls - I was always right outside with them but one morning I walked out in my yard and see the dogs WHOLE FACE looking right at me from their side....

I patched up my fence (again) and made a banner ....mostly to cheer up my husband but I think it says it all.....The big board to the left is where I saw 'THE FACE' looking at me. As you can see - my fence was totally destroyed -

the reason I have the word 'ALIENS' there is cause my fence ended up lookin like a drunk carpenter did it - - or I was some crazy woman obsessed with Alien Invasion

Ive known many pits in my life, and all have been nothing but sweet, kind, laid back and friendly. The owners of these dogs were very strict with training and used a no tolerance policy with them. They got punished for ANY kind of acting out and as a result they were/are very docile dogs. I think it does/could take a heavy training path with more punishment than reward in the begining but my brothers pit/lab mix plays with my dogs all the time! At first I was scared, but after I saw how much she tolerates and never even growls I felt more comfortable. I'd NEVER leave them to play unsupervised but she is really good around them and such a sweet sweet dog. He has 2 pit mixes, but he got the second when he moved cross country. They are both really sweet goofy dogs and very loving!

I cant put this into one word...but I have owned pitts all my life up until recently b/c when I moved to college I had to leave him with my parents and he was really old and got cancer and had to be put to sleep so I havent gotten another one yet but hope to one day after graduating and getting a house!! Here is what I have learned about pits....they think they are the size of a yorkie!!!!! It is soo funny to watch them play...they want to crawl in your lap like a lap dog and they think they are tiny creatures that can fit thru anything!! Lol. They are very funny. They are very sweet dogs (if raised and trained properly and have a loving background). The only downside I have seen is....this goes back to the cancer thing...EVERY pit I have ever owned and EVERY pit my uncle has owned once they get older we have to have them put to sleep b/c they get VERY sick and vets never know whats wrong until after we make the sad decision to have him put to sleep so he wont suffer anymore and they do an autopsy and find they were eat up with cancer. I dont get it. I havent ever really heard of anyone else saying they have had the same problem but the pits that have been in my life (whether mine or my uncle's) have all gotten cancer. Very sad. That is the only reason I may not ever get another one...just b/c it kills me to see them get sick like that at old age and have to have them put to sleep.
