| During these difficult times! Just wanted to share some advice and hopefully light up the mood a little in these tough economic times we are going through. I know that $119 barrel Oil is effecting everyone, no matter the income. And while it is very depressing watching your gas station raise prices everyday, we must not surrender to the general aura created by this foul stage. The fact that gas will hit $4.50 is very clear. But hopes are that after elections gas will go down a little allowing us to travel more freely and spend money like we used to. I started biking recently, just for fun, and also to shape up a little. Not only does it work to speed up metabolism and burn off whatever fat I have, but its a great way to relax, mentally!! I am lucky to have a huge park with a lake by my house and I go there a few times a week. I usually do 10 miles and it works great. I also turned my attention to my diet, no more eggs and bacon in the morning, instead I have an orange and yogurt. Bottom line, healthy light food. The results are awesome!!! I feel much better, have more energy and breathe a lot better, lot less allergies. I also quit smoking, never was a big smoker, but a pack a week would do. For those who smoke, try it. You will feel like a new person!!! Also, if you have never done Detox diet, do some research online and try it, it does wonders too. Basically you eat nothing but veggies for 3 days, with lots of water or green tea. This cleans out the liver of toxins stored of a period of time. I tried this a few weeks back and lost 5 lbs and felt really good after it. Good luck to all!! Stay healthy! |

| Congrats!! Love the positive attitude. We can always use more than that. I used to bike that much. It was great. Maybe I'll dust mine off again.

| I just wanted to throw some positive outlooks out there. Few tips on optimism. STOP watching news. CNN, FOX, or any other local stations. News are not important. They are mostly depressing (baby microwaved, someone killed, accident with DWI). None of them are relevant to you. THose new that are, will be brought to you soon enough. SO dont pollute your mind with stupid new that is given to us by media. Change of habits are also very beneficial, even the smallest ones. And most of all, spend more time with family!! Family family!!!! |

| I so agree with you. I quit smoking about a month ago and started focusing on living better. I eat more fruits and veggies. I walk on a treadmill,do pilates and sit ups every day. I feel better than I have in a long time. I want to do a detox. I am sure that will be next

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Fantastic ideas and boy I see more and more people riding bikes now. Too bad we don't have nice weather every day to do that but when it's nice the bikes are coming out! I already eat healthy so that helps with the stress of paying for all that gas and heating our houses. Oh and you are oh so right about not watching the news every day...it really does depress you. I only watch the news maybe 1-2x a week just to get caught up on what's going on in the world but if I want weather and sports then I go right to speicific web sites or the channels on TV to get that info.

| Too bad I can't ride a bike to work (100 miles round trip). THAT surely would give me a fair amount of exercise but it would take me HOURS to get there! Sorry, but the gas situation sucks so bad for me and it's only going to get worse. I know you didn't post this to get downer remarks but ARGH! $600-700 in gas expense a month just to get to work is hard.

| I drive a Tahoe right now. Yes, I agree that a more economic car would be better but unfortunately we are upside down on the Tahoe right now. I tried getting into a car but the payments were laughable because of what we owe on the Tahoe. We're hoping to sell it ourselves as soon as we are closer to the payoff but until then, I have to suck it up.

| I love this thread! DH and I both broke out our bikes we bought last year and are going to start getting in better shape and he plans to ride to work about 4.5 miles one way a few times a week to cut down on the expense -- I plan on doing the same whenever I need to run to the grocery store for something small or to a friends house. As far as food expenses go we are both doing WW and only eating an actual serving of food at a time so that's helping us dramatically with making our dollars stretch |

| Biking is great. Biking up to an hour can burn off 250 calories, more if you bike more. You breathe fresh air, lungs feel better, and once you breathing improves everything else feels better. Also, for guys, legs release testosterone when biking, a crucial chemical needed for a guy to be a guy!! AS far as the Tahoe, I was at a GM meeting a few month back, private. Well, things are not looking too good in Fuel economy department. Big cars like that will never be efficient. So don't drive one if you don't need it. This whole MACHO SUV craze is over thank god. America had a great line of station wagons in 70's 80's that did the job that any SUV will do if not more, except 4x4 ing and 90% of SUV owners never take their trucks off roading anyway. So this whole 4x4 image thing is a marketing gimmick. Subaru has and always had great 4wd cars and wagons, safe, fast, economic and very stylish. But if you do need a big SUV like that, GM came out with a great line of trucks, Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade HYBRID. They get 28MPG on a highway. But again, who would pay $40000 for a huge truck like that I don't know. |

| Oh, believe me.... we will be getting into a more fuel efficient car as soon as we can. I do like the ability to drive across our pastures in the Tahoe but I can give that up if need be . Thank goodness our family is also all in the same town. I feel for my sister when she has to come from Dallas for family functions.
