| Question..... This is silly and way OT, but......how to you get your house to smell nice, fresh and clean. I mean, my house, doesn't have a "smell"...neither good nor bad...it is just BLAH! Now, my parents house, some friends house, etc...they smell good...you walk in and it smells sweet & fresh & clean, not perfumey, not overpowering, etc. Even their clothes smell like their house. I've asked several what they use....they don't use candles or anything....so, why doesn't mine smell good???? Do you all know what I am talking about? I got some clothing for Katelyn from a friend the other day...and they smelled soooo good. They smelled just like her house.....it's not fair!!!! Like, my daughter loves the way Holister smells....can I bring that smell home! Should I go around spraying everything w/ my daughters Juicy perfume? Should I put something in the air vents? Should I burn candles all the time, in hopes of that helping? I'm crazy, I know....but I just want a nice smelly house and clothing...we use Gain for the laundry....we don't have carpet (anywhere), but steam mop the floors.......argh....I NEED HELP!

| lol Jenn, you are so cute! i know exactly what you mean though. i have friends that have houses like that, but its usually because they are "clean freaks" ...as in the are constantly cleaning with smell-good products...like 3 times a day! i dont have the time!! ALSO...you may have a house that smells good and just cant tell...our noses get used to our own particular smell and cant detect it any longer...so you may smell just as sweet and dont even know it! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | What fabric softener, if any, do you use, Jen? I use the Downy Ball and liquid fabric softener (I use either Walmart brand or Downy) and our clothes have a clean fresh scent. For me, it seems to work better at retaining a clean scent and softer clothes than the dryer sheets. And, that could be the difference in overall house smells too? I know what you mean about certain people and the always present pleasant scent their homes have. But I do think dexterandalana is right in that we get used to the scent our homes have and just don't notice.

| Thanks you all for humoring me in my silly quest for a wonderfully yummy smelly home! I currently use Bounce dryer sheets, but I will invest in the Downy Ball. I have put dryer sheets in drawers, closets, air vents, cars, etc....but they never retain their "smelling power" long! I remember my aunts house....everything smelled sooo good, all smelled the same. Her air, her dog, her clothing, her couch, etc. Everything just smelled GOOD. DH bought an air purifier for our bedroom one year, but it let off a smell that upset his sinuses....and we didn't even use the air freshner packet that came w/ it...it was just the machine itself, I guess. Maybe I should just clean all day...mop the floors w/ Pinesol, refresh all linens, cushions, pillows, etc.....whew.....but that would be my whole day!! It's funny because I think my parents house smells like "Christmas"..all year....I can't explain it, but it just reminds me of Christmas time when I was growing up....I love that smell. A friends house (with kids, cats, dogs) always smells like shampoo or something....like a good smelly Pantene conditioner! Now, how does that happen! Ha!

| I know what you're sayin.. and how about everyone's house has a smell.. I commented once at a friends.. I hadn't been there in years and when I walked in I said "same smell" he went.. WHAT?! I didn't mean a bad smell.. just the same smell it has always had. Ya know.. My gf always says my house smells GOOD..and I don't smell it..but I do use Glad plug ins in 2 rooms.. but sometimes I forget to change them for months and she still says it so , maybe it's MY house smell..who knows.

| I really think the secret to keeping a house fresh smelling is to have the air circulating a lot. We don't have central air and heat so sometimes my house gets stuffy until I turn on the window unit and get fresh air coming in and circulating. I really want to check into geting an air filtration system. I don't use plugin air fresheners because I am allergic to most things like that and I have read that candles and air fresheners are not really healthy to breath. If you have central air then you can leave the fan on continueous and that really helps but it sure does not help with the electric bill. |

| People probably say that your house always smells good too! You can't smell it because you live there. My husband and I have always loved the smell of the craft shops that you walk into and thats what I have tried to achieve for years. I use the bath & body plug ins...I try to stick to darker colors for the bigger rooms and whatever in bathrooms & smaller areas. They last about 2-3 months. I like to change them out once I am not smelling them anymore. They usually run decent sales on them. I also found those automatic spray deodorizers that you find in public bathrooms for $5 at the grocery store. You can set the amount it sprays, I think I have it set to every 30 minutes. It lasts around 2-3 months as well I also, (if you haven't noticed, I know exactly what your talking about) found a good use for a little longaberger crock I won. I fill it up with the inscent oil (dollar general $1) and set my stove warmer on low. If you don't have a warmer you can either get a little stainless bowl and set it on the stove or use the plugin warmers, which are under $10 at wal mart. and I do have a Candle warmer, where you set the jar inside the warmer. Or you can just do what Hollister does and go around spraying your favorite scent around the house every so often and before you know it your house will retain that smell! Good luck!

| Do you make your own oil or do you buy it (lets say at Wal-Mart)...my sister gave me one for my birthday w/ an apple/cinnamon oil (like apple pie)...it is in my bedroom and smells good! Not too strong...not overpowering.....maybe I need to invest in several of those to put around the house. I heard those were easy to make yourself as well....um...that might be a fun project (and fun gifts). I did have a Bath and Body Works "wallflower", but it was too strong for Mojo. I don't know if it was just really strong around the area or what...plus, my grandmother does NOT allow any of us to have the plug in things...as she is afraid they will cause a fire! Maybe...just maybe...I will bake cookies and pies all day

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Someone came to my apartment the other day and the 1st thing out of their mouth was ....."it smells so GOOD in here" so I know what I'm doing is working -and it's easy to do.... I use fabreeze Oringinal scent every few days - plus I have reed diffusers from Pier One in each room & rotate them once a week - 3 of them... they really keep their scent 'power' |

| Oh I just love this thread!! I have posted my wierdness about this topic on other threads!! For me, smell is SO IMPORTANT!! It can make or break my day!! I am obsessed, I mean OBSESSED with my laundry! I love the smell of bleach and I love and only use Tide with Downy softener. I either use clean breeze or April shower Downy scents. I posted on a favorite candle smell thread that I would beg Tide and Downy to make that a candle if they could!! heeheehee But, ok, sit down...here is where I get wierd!! I am a clean freak and was scared when I got Pokey that my home might lose the clean fresh scent...when I feel that way, sometimes I pour a SMALL amount of Pinesol in my kitchen or bathroom sinks. I put some warm water in with it and let in sit in the sink for a few hours. I then open all doors and windows and really get that good air circulation. I have become somewhat used to the scent, so I have to be VERY careful to strictly use a small amount of pinesol and not overload Pokey with dangerous fumes! But I agree with everyones opinions....#1 we get used to our own scents #2 good air circulation, mixing a light scent with true fresh air helps KEEP the scents around and #3 I bet others are right!! People probably leave you thinking how good you smell but just dont point it out!! Its so easy to notice things that arent the norm for us. I still get so many compliments on my perfume, but I can never smell it when I put it on! So I trust it can be smelled and wont let myself wear more so I dont become one of those ladies that pours the whole bottle on me and you can still smell me 4 hours after Ive left the building!!! Oh yeah!! In my car and for instant clean snell I always spray the febreeze "spring renewal" scent!

Also, are all of your diffusers the same scent? Do you rotate the sticks (turn them over every now and then)...is that what you mean? Sorry for all the questions....I am on a mission!!

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I know just what you mean! I always like a clean smelling house but to me I can't smell it in my house, i guess cause I'm used to it. When i used to dorm i used the plug in glad(sp) fresheners and it made my room smell soooo good! But after a while i couldn't smell it cause i was used to it, but other ppl could and always commented. So even if you don't notice it other ppl do. My ex's house used to smell sooo good and i later found out it was cause of the fabric softener they used. You could smell it outside their front door, even before they opened!
