| Need input on polygraphs Yes approx. amonth ago.. some funds came up missing at work. I was the closing manager for that eve. They think it was inside job. I know that I DID NOT TAKE the funds. But they informed us that all key holders have to take a polygraph test. They cannot demand it. But if 3 our of 4 take it... the one that don't, is charged. It's been over a month... since this all took place. I have never never ever been in trouble with law. I have never even seen the inside of a jail. I have been a nervous wreck just thinking about the polygraph test. I just hope... it does not give a false reading?? Input?? What if it would give a bad reading? Then what happens? |

| advise Get the advise of an attorney. You need to know your rights. If 3 people pass the test, it does not make the 4th guilty...some people can lie and pass a test...others results can be termed "inconclusive"..meaning it was not possible to determine if they were being truthful or lying...that is why polygraph results are not permissible in court...if a person fails one, it gives the police an edge to look for more evidence against that person to convict, but a conviction can not be based on test results only..talk to a lawyer. PS..there is no way I would let just anyone give me a test...a test is only as good as the person who gives it and reads it... Last edited by YorkieRose; 03-13-2008 at 06:20 PM. |

While it would be possible to get charged for the crime, it would never go to trail without any further evidence other than you not taking a polygraph. In others words, you are being unreasonably pressured to take the test. Before submitting to the test, you should seek the advise of an attorney. BTW - I've taken the test. I was nervous. When I knew it counted, I got nervous. It was determined I lied my @ss off. I did not. I'll never, under any circumstances, submit to another polygraph test. | My uncle had to take one many years ago...and his attorney advised against it because they are not 100% accurate and what it shows, is solid evidence in a case (even though they all know they are not 100% accurate). Anyway, he knew that he was not guilty of whatever it was at the time (something petty, but I can't remember)...anyway, he wanted to prove to everyone that he was telling the truth....well, the test showed that he lied and it was then evidence in court. ---So...I would definitely talk to an attorney! So scary...I've never had to have one, nor do I ever wish to be in a situation to take one!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | That sounds like a very stressful position for you to be in. I hope you can get some advice from an attorney.

| My nephew is a deputy, he had to take a polygraph test, and said they really aren't 100% full proof...they realize you're going to be nervous, and they ask you a few questions first..just be calm, be truthful, and everything will be okay..if you didn't take anything, you have nothing to worry about...If I was innocent, I would want to be the last one taking it, that way, if I knew I didn't, I would think the one that did take it, would be caught, and then I wouldn't have to take it period.. |

It has been my experience that habitual liars are so comfortable that they even believe their lies to be the truth!! I would have an attorney with me. Good luck!

| Yeesh, I'm sorry your having to go through this...when I worked at a bank someone stole money...well it was from the main vault and that night prior to the money being missing my boss and I were the ones to count it and verify it was all there, my initials were on the log along with hers...well I KNEW I DIDN'T DO IT. It had to have been her...well if she passed and I failed how would that have looked. They finally found her out and she had to own up but I know how nervous you are and how nerve racking it can be just to be interrogated alone...had they have wanted me to take a polygraph I'm not sure that I would have done it...Good Luck!

| I wouldn't be too quick to take one because I think it measures something having to do with stress. You are stressed if you have to take the test, so they are somewhat pointless.
