| Correct me if I am wrong but isn't this site supposed to be about yorkies???? Why are we debating pit bulls then?? Everyone needs to agree to disagree. Those who do not have personal experiece with any of these breeds need to educate themselves before jumping to conclusions. Pits are great dogs as are rotties and dobes and so on and so on. |

| Kelly ~ I'm just defending them because I feel like I have to. I hate when media outlets jump at any chance to say a bad thing about a breed. Kimberley ~ you implied that I'm often rude. If you think I am, that's fine, but I don't think that being passionate about something should be mistaken for being rude. I did read the thread and just wished that there was more information available for people to read and not be afraid of certain breeds of dogs before jumping to conclusion based on one bad experience. We don't write people off that quickly.

| Donating YT 7000 Club Member | OK, first of all, i'm really happy that this thread hasn't become heated and i hope it stays that way!! now i want to add my opinion.i have had good and bad expierances with "vicious breeds". about 2 years ago my dog rusty was attacked by a pitt bull who lived across the street from us. i personally had seen this guy hit the dog numerous times. i knew right from the start that he was abused. i was like 6 years old i think, and walking rusty. my dog was on a leash, his wasn't. i heard the guy yell something and the next thing i knew he was ontop of rusty. a nice man walking by broke up the fight and helped me get rusty home. then he left. when the cops came they went to talk to the other guy. he told them that MY dog attacked his!!! this made me soo mad i could have killed him with my bare hands. then the cops came back and were playing with rusty to see how "vicious" he was. he didn't even get up, he was just sitting there licking their hands. so baiscally the guy was told if the dog was ever in the town again it would be put down immedatly. a few months later he showed up with the same dog. my neighbors knew what happened to rusty so they called the cops. they came and picked up the dog. the guy was fined. i felt so bad for that poor dog. i was glad that he wasn't around to attack any thing else, but i would have been so much happier to see that man get put to sleep!! he just got out of jail for robbing a bank, personally i think he should have been in jail from the start. rusty has become more protective of me since then, one time the guy came by to visit his mom. i didn't recognize him but apperantly rusty did. he was barking and growling and showing his teeth. then i realized it was the same guy, because i recognized his truck. ok that was the bad expierance. now for the good one. my uncle has a rottie named lacey. she is the sweetest dog you could ever meet!!! so personally i think its wrong to judge a dog by their breed. just thought i'd put in my thought on this subject. i realize it will probably never be settled, this is a very touchy subject, but i hope that this bad rap will ware off soon enough

We actually rescused him from a No-Kill shelter here in NY...He was about 9 weeks old and about 10lbs...The rescuers took him from someone that was abusing the liter of pups! As you can see from his baby pics his chin area was messed up pretty bad from being in a rusty cage and stuff...Now he is 80lbs at 19 months old and happy as can be, with no more bad skin by his chin... He learned the sit command within one day! My 75 year old grandmother has taught him how to let her know if he wants some apples...She will ask him STORM DO U WANT AN APPLE...Storm will walk over to the fridge and hit it with his paw if he does Of course as his AUNTIE I had to teach him HIGH FIVE! Our vet thinks he is half lab since he learns so fast ![]() When we saw him on the rescue site, it said BEAGLE MIX...They didnt even know he was part pit...When my vet saw him, he knew right away from his head shape and out vet also has a pitbull ![]() I feel like I can go on and on about him and hes not even mine!! Thanks again for the nice compliment on Storm! XoXoXo Fran

Sometimes the shelter will list a dog as a different mix so that they can get people to come in and check the dog out. Most shelters do this. I know that the one that I worked with did this because of the mentality of most people thinking that these dogs dont deserve love like other breeds because of thier bad rap. It worked though. You guys went and looked at him. So happy that he is such a wonderful dog. | |

| I personally have never owned a big dog. But with all of my friends' experiences with pitt bull attacks makes me very nervous and afraid when I see one, or walk near one. For that matter, I would also be very nervous around a rotti or doberman. I don't know whether the media hypes it up or I'm just nervous about those 3 breeds because of not only mine but my friends' bad attack experiences, from supposed SWEET dogs. I'm really glad some of you have them in your home, because then you can socialize and train them properly. But not every dog is the same, just like not every owner is the same. Sometimes no matter how well you love them and train them, they have a vicious side to them. Yes sometimes the owners aren't educated enough but I've heard of dogs that were so loveddd (my cousins big doberman) and one day he just attacked. Never knew why but something just snapped. I don't really have a real opinion about this issue because I can see it both ways.
