Sick fish that just wont go... This may sound mean to some of you...sorry :( I have this goldfish...and for about 2 weeks now he's been trying his damndest to cross to the little fish bowl in the sky...but he just WONT GO! He's at the top, floating on his side...one fin just waving at me...(I personally think he knows how much I hate him and he's giving me the one fin salute). Every so often he goes under and swims for a bit, but most of his time is spent floating on his side. I kid you not...2 weeks of this nonsence! This sucker has killed off all but 2 of my fish, eaten ( ) my snails and has generally been a thorn in my side. WTF???? Is he dying? Is he in retirement? (My retired gramps spends most of his time in this exact position...he says that he wont die because he likes giving the nurses a run for their money...his words, not mine!) I'm tempted to just flush the sucker, but as I said, he's killed off almost all my other fish and I just cant tell my daughter, yet again, that one of her fish is "at the rehab facility getting better". I swear that I'm not a mean or hateful person, but this fish is turning me into someone I'd rather not be. |
Flush him. Just kidding!!! that was so mean. I'm sorry! haha. He might have had a stroke. I had a beta fish that swam on his side for 2 years after he had a stroke. Good luck! |
Don't flush- that's just wrong. I've read (from fish experts) to use vodka. Some are against it, but then, everything has somebody for and against it. I've done it one or twice on ill fish and they seem to go pretty quickly. |

I have a Goldfish that did the same thing. I took him out of the tank and put him in his own bowl for a couple of days and he made a full recovery:) That was 2 months ago and he is still going strong! |
You know....I'm moving soon....I hope the fish tank doesnt "fall off the back of the truck" or "get stolen by thugs" or, heaven forbid, "get left behind"!!!! |

LOL Sorry..but i think this thread is too funny. I've never had a problem with goldfish not dieing on me...LOL..we'd bring them home and they seemed to always die within a few days |

It's all just so insulting. I mean, I picked this idiot out. I feed him, I keep him safe, and this is how he repays me. He just floats on his side, flipping me the bird. Every time I walk by the tank I roll my eyes and mumble things that are not appropriate for this site. No offence, but I wish he would just get the hint that he's not loved....sheesh! |

I don't know what I should say about this though...I guess I could say, good luck on him crossing over to the Goldfish Bridge - and quick!? LOL I don't know!! :p |
I guess Vodka. Alcohol also works. I know this cause when i was like 5 i had fish and i started out with 13, but each day one would die. I guess whatever one had gave it to all of them. Well there were like 5 left and i was bored so i put alcohol or nailpolish remover in the water, can't remember which and they died right away. Then i felt super bad. I was only 5 lol |
I had a betta fish lay on its side for two weeks. I put medicine in the bowl and put A plant in the bowl that he could float on and in two weeks he was back to normal |
Oh, how sad. I'll take him. I hate to see anything suffering. Maybe we could do one of those rescue trains from BC to Georgia. Poor, little guy. |
Can you take him to a local aquarium to see if there's something that can be done for him? Maybe he just needs some medication or a change in environment... |
lol... i'm sorry that was THE funniest thing i've heard in a while.. lol... i know you are a good person... and some people are concerned for the fish but i think it's just funny... lol.... like he is doing it to spite you! i had a fish like that :) |
Some of the threads on here just crack me up...:p |
Gosh, if he appears to be suffering - I wish you'd just help him move on. Otherwise, perhaps buy some medicine from the fish store? If it were me, I couldn't let anything linger in a state where suffering might be happening. I know you don't intend to be mean...but...suffering is suffering, no matter how small the creature. |
I've got it!!! Get some Alka selzer & a big bowl of warm water......add a little rose oil.........then he will think he is going for a really nice spa teatment.........he won't know what hit him!!1:eek: |
Awww this is all sooo sad.... Poor guy... I've had fantail goldfish .. they are beautiful and so relaxing to watch... my apt would only allow a 10g and i had a 29 so my best friend has my goldies and i get to watch them on webcam I hope he doesn't suffer any longer... |

Smae On You I am really surprised at this thread! What if this poor fish was a YORKIE.. wow:( I am not a fan of fish but come on. Shanatink is and others here. If they saw this I think they would Really be offended by the way some of you all have responded.. Shame on you all. |
I have a pond in the summer months and always bring my fish in over the winter,I do not keep them in a tank but in like a betta dish (the big ones) I change water 2 times a week and only 2 fish to a bowl. They get so huge over the summer I hate to not keep them.I like the big black ones with the bulging eyes the best Is your tank clean, maybe you need to take out half the water and refill it and put in a complete conditioner ( it will get rid of or reduce odor and organic slime and just make your tank a better enviorment if used weekly),it will provide a clean wholesome enviorment for them,or take him out and put him in a bigger jar with clean water till he revives or expires.(need to treat the water before you put him in it) I have keep goldfish for 3 years before they have expired. DO you have a under ground water filtration ? |
I had a goldfish 1 time and he kept jumping outta the bowl, and I always seemed to be there just to save it. Well 1 day I came in and noticed it was missing. "were du go" I was saying to myself. I look behind the radiator and there it was. I run some water on it and it came back to life. Well after a while it started decaying from the tail upwards, honestly it was pretty disgusting, even my kids used to say to me, oh mammy please flush it. And to be honest I didnt have the heart, it was still swimming around the bowl. Well 1 day I just couldnt look at it no more, and I got it and had to put it in the bin. I'll tell you what, I'll never get a glodfish again. NEVER. |
Yep i agree Daisy.. i know i'm a fan of fish... there's got to be a better way for him not to have to suffer or some medicine to make him better.. i dont know what's all wrong so i cant tell ya what medicine.. like daisy said what if this were our yorkies.. poor fishy... i hope you pass on peacefully and happily.. |
