Oh, I forgot to mention that after I went to Animal Control on Tuesday, I called a very good friend, who is an attorney. He said that the owner’s home owner’s insurance company should cover this. Animal control gave me the owner’s address and I gave it to my friend. He is sending her a letter giving her a “head’s up” that we are going to pursue this case. My thoughts are that if the financial costs to the insurance company are sufficient enough, they will pressure her to get rid of the dog, or drop her. No doubt whatever financial settlement I agree to is just pennies to an insurance company, but the reality that the next time it could be a child that is attacked where mega bucks would be involved, could inspire the insurance company to take action.

Animal control also came and took Sissy's body, but my neighbor asked them not to do anything with her because he knew that I would want to bury her. Monday was a holiday, so I was not able to go to Animal Control until Tuesday morning. They gave me the name of the dog, the dog's owner, address and telephone number. In this county, dogs are not allowed to run loose, so "Precious" was confiscated and is now being held. If the owner does not surrender the dog, there will be a hearing in January before the full commission. Because this is "Precious'" first offense, she will probably be released to her owners with strict requirements. I was able to spend some time with Sissy and make arrangements to have her picked up and cremated. My heart, as well as my husband's, is broken. When I see her dish, her favorite toy, her favorite blanket, my heart just feels so empty and lost. Why, in their own backyard, can't my little furbabies be safe and secure. I am so lost ~ I can't get out of my mind the pain and fear both of them must have felt.

Oh my God, I am so sorry to hear and read this, my pores are standing. This is truly tragic and horrible. that dog should be PUT DOWN at once.

First offense to your knowledge, he may have killed other pets in the neighborhood and nobody saw him do it.

I am just seeing this thread and OMG feel so sorry for your family and what your two babies had to go through. It hurts just for me to even think of the terror they must have felt]. A first offense for "Precious"??? What about the attack on the beagle mix and who knows how many others she's done this to. It makes me feel sick. I would hope that the stict restrictions they put on her would be confinement to her yard or on a chain (which wouldn't be much of a life for a big dog), but if that's what it takes to keep others safe..... I wish you much succes in getting all of this legal stuff resolved to your satisfaction and will keep your family and sweet Bella and Sissy in my thoughts and prayers.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! This is sooo very sad!! I am soooooo sorry that this happened to you.....and a lab doing this....who would have thought?!
