| Horrific tragedy Last Sunday, a large Lab mix jumped over our fence and came into our yard where two of my Yorkies were on squirrel patrol. The weather was beautiful, and both girls loved to patrol the yard and chase the squirrels. I heard one of the dogs scream and I ran outside on the deck. Bella was crawling up the stairs with pure fear in her eyes. She was bleeding profusely and in terrible pain. I scooped her up and ran down the stairs to find Sissy. At the moment, I saw this large brown dog jumping over the fence into the woods behind our home. Sissy was laying next to the garage, a little heap of black and tan fur, no longer breathing. I ran next door and asked my neighbor to call the police, as I had to rush Bella to the emergency hospital. She was in such pain, (three broken ribs, factured pelvis, shredded muscle mass in her right hip, puncture wounds in her chest wall, and right leg) she was biting me to try and ease the pain. She underwent surgery Sunday evening, and will survive. The police came and brought animal control with them. They located the dog, who went back to her owner's home. Animal control also came and took Sissy's body, but my neighbor asked them not to do anything with her because he knew that I would want to bury her. Monday was a holiday, so I was not able to go to Animal Control until Tuesday morning. They gave me the name of the dog, the dog's owner, address and telephone number. In this county, dogs are not allowed to run loose, so "Precious" was confiscated and is now being held. If the owner does not surrender the dog, there will be a hearing in January before the full commission. Because this is "Precious'" first offense, she will probably be released to her owners with strict requirements. I was able to spend some time with Sissy and make arrangements to have her picked up and cremated. My heart, as well as my husband's, is broken. When I see her dish, her favorite toy, her favorite blanket, my heart just feels so empty and lost. Why, in their own backyard, can't my little furbabies be safe and secure. I am so lost ~ I can't get out of my mind the pain and fear both of them must have felt.

| Helen, I'm SO sorry you have to go through this. I really feel for you in my heart. I hope Bella makes a quick recovery. It's horrible how dogs have to suffer because of an owner irresponsibility!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | OMG i am so so sorry this has happened. Poor Sissy I cannot believe that animal control isn't going to do more. If i were you i'd sue "Precious" owners. And sorry to say, but precious should be euthanized. Poor Sissy and Bella were the ones to suffer this time but who's to say next time won't be a child. that dog is not safe.

| I am so sorry about Sissy and Bella! That so tragic to lose a pet that means so much to you, I could never imagine. Its terrible that no one (people nor pets) can be safe in their own backyards. I hope that Bella gets well soon and without too much pain and again I am so sorry about Sissy. |

| OMG that is awful and I am so so sorry for your loss. Thank God Bella will recover. I know it will not ease your pain but I would take the owners to small claims court for the monetary value of Sissy and vet bills for Bella. They should have to pay in some way. Sending prayers for your heart to heal.

| OMG I am so sorry about your poor babies. I would sue that family for everything they got. That dog should be euthanized!! I would make sure of it if it was my baby. You are left to fight for Sissy's lost life. Poor baby, couldn't even be in her own yard playing without some viscious huge dog trespassing. I would definitely sue them. Good luck with everything and you'll be in my thoughts and prayers to heal you and your families hearts.
