| Strep throat! Where is the little icon that is pulling its hair out???? Olivia (my 4 yr old) had a dr appt yesterday. She has and ear infection and her tonsils are swollen. They swabbed her throat for a strep test. They said negative. This morning I get a call AFTER I have sent her to school, that the test was POSITIVE for strep. So I had to go pick her up and let her teacher know that she had strep so she could let the other parents know their children have been exposed. Now we are ALL probably going to wind up with it. I swear I am going to put a huge sterile bubble around our house and we are all going to just sit here, away from all the germs.

| She isn't too bothered by it. To her strep throat means ice cream, popsicles, and all day on the couch watching nick jr.

| Ugh! I hope your daughter is feeling better soon. I am prone to strep myself and it is NO FUN! Ironically, I think these two weeks are the worst for it. I had it last year around T'giving and I know there are a few other times around the holiday when I had it... In any case, may her next few days will be filled with lots of cartoons and sleep! |

| Why would they have said it was negative and then give you a call today saying it was positive?? That is nonesense!!! I am sorry that she is sick...the poor thing! When I worked at my daughters elementary school (when she was in school), I got it from a 1st grade class...I knew I was bad sick...it was a feeling that I hadn't had before. I went to the doctor, had a 105 temp and they couldn't believe that was up and around...let alone driving. I had never been so sick in my life! And the feeling (for me) of strep throat....you knew what it was from the beginning! YUCK! Take care....and I hope no one else gets it!

| It didn't make any sense to me either. Something about the immediate results were negative but when they did something with the culture it came out positive. It usually takes 48 hours but hers started showing positive in less than 24. Thankfully they are out of school all next week. I figure if one has it then it won't be long before the other two do as well.

| So sorry, hope your little one gets feeling better...My kids always had it, at one time the Dr said it was one of the worse cases he had ever seen...without knowing they had it right off, I was bad about drinking of of their cups..come to find out, I'm a carrier of it.. The only good thing for me, is I can't get it.. |

| Poor baby. I have never been so sick in my life as when I had strep. Thankfully I have not had it in years. Hope she is feeling better soon.

Sometimes the rapid strep test is wrong, so that is way they do the lab test as a back up. My doc always does to throat swabs. Normal by the time the kids show signs of it, they have allready exposed others to it. My daughter gets strep often and it comes on quickly. Plus, she never really feels bad just a headache sometimes and high fever. | |

YT 2000 Club Member | My second oldest of my four boy's has a primary Immune Defect and when ever he or his brothers go in for thing like infections, they put them on the antibiotic right away before getting any results from test just to be on the safe side for my Kennedy. If it comes back negative then we stop treatment. I also get calls from the health department and school nurse when they have outbreaks of illnesses. My Kennedy can not get live virus vaccine's (MMR and Chicken Pox) If he has direct contact with the chicken pox he has to get a special medication I think it is called V ZIG and then has to get weekly Gammaglobulin treatments to make sure he does not get the chicken Pox. It was scarry when he was in Kindergarten and his 3 brother's all got it( he did not thank GOD) we were at the Immunologist every week for 2 1/2 months till they all got over it! Kennedy is 13 now and my goodness it has been a chore to keep these kids healthy!!

| I've been battling strep for over a week - and as an adult it's awful. I had it last Feb. too. I was just thinking yesterday, how awful it was when my daughter was little & got sick & couldn't vocalize it in the same way except to say my throat hurts. Once she had the test, they said no it's negative, and then she spent time with great-grandparents, only to learn that the test went to positive later! You feel so guilty all the people you expose. I knew last week I had strep didn't need the test -- but I was so bad - because I was sooo busy at work - so I had some left over amoxicillian and tried to take that, but by Saturday it was evident it wasn't working. Went to the doctor & yes, positive for strep & they gave me that new Z-pack or Azithromycin - that you only take for 5 days & it stays in your system for 10 days -- hoping that's true, because I've taken the 5 days & still feeling bad. Strep really is serious. Hope your girl feels better soon. I bought some ice cream too last night - so tell her to enjoy
