| Eye Surgery ? Has anyone here ever had eye surgery on their yorkies ? My little 8 yr old yorkie, Lindsey, 4 1/2 lbs, had developed an eye infection which turned out to be glucoma in one of her eyes. We saw the Emergency Eye Vet and we decided to administer 4 types of eye meds to Lindseys eye for a week. Next week the dr. is going to take more tests to see if the pressure is off her eye, if not, it looks like Lindseys eye will be taken out. The optical nerve is weak so no prostetic can be put there. I'm really a wreck and have turned to YorkieTalk for support. If anyone has had experience with eye problems and surgery with eyes, please reply. Lindeys Mom.... |

| I have never had this surgery on my yorkies, but I have a poodle terrier mix who had to have one of her eyes removed after it was punctured when playing with another bigger dog. She does fine with one eye. except she has a harder time catching treats in the air like she used to Bless her heart!

| My dog Didi had glaucoma. We could not afford the sugery, but if I did I would of get the eye removal done. The glaucoma progressed faster than we though and went to her other eye. She became blind in not just one, but both eyes. We had to put her down, since left untreated it causes headaches and is very painful to the dog. I've seen dogs with one eye that do just fine and still have good eyesight. When Didi became blind in one eye, you wouldn't even know she was blind in that eye, except for the obvious eye itself. Fully blind however took some time getting use to and she would bump into things at times. I would get the sugery done ASAP, before the glaucoma becomes any worst than it already is. This horrible disease took a toll on my baby, don't want it to happen to yours. |
