![]() My 4 1/2 month Yorkie was spayed yesterday. She did really good. I brought her home after the surgery(about 7 hours after) and she slept most of the evening. she woke up around 2 am licking her incision and would not stop. The vet told me to tie an old tee shirt around her belly so she can't lick. It does help, but I am afraid when I leave her alone she will pull the tee off. Also how long does it take for the anesthetic to where off? She is still very sleepy and mellow today, 24 hrs. later. Although I don't think she is in pain or has a fever, but what do you give a 5 lb. Yorkie for pain and fever, incase she needs it in the future?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() Hi and welcome to YT ![]() It's not uncommon for them to still be sleepy the next day, her body is still under quite a bit of stress. For pain, I always insist upon bringing home pain meds and a pain plan with me from the vet...didn't the vet offer pain meds? For major abdominal surgery such as a spay, I'd insist on having pain meds available for the 1st week. If you don't have them, I'd call the vet and ask for them asap as her pain med injection from the surgery is definitely not potent anymore.

![]() For the licking I used an e-collar for Lexi. As for the pain, the very gave us pain meds that lasted 5 days, I think. If you think she is in pain I would call the vet and ask for meds.

![]() Thanks for your reply! do you put the whole onsie on then, and snap the croch? how do they go to the bathroom?. I have a "dog scarf" tied around her belly and she has left it alone. As for the pain the vet tech said she wouldn't be in pain" they can tolorate more then us". she doesn't act like she is in pain, I just wanted to know if I could give her tylonal if I need to.

![]() Tylenol is toxic to dogs. I always had pain medication for each of my little girls after their spay. Buffered aspirin can be given, but I'd definitely check with your vet to see if it's okay after a spay, but I would definitely use a prescription from my vet over aspirin. OTC Medications Dog Pain Medications: Aspirin (And Other NSAIDs), Ibuprofen, and More I hope Edith gets better quickly. Enjoy her!

![]() Thank You! She is doing great, she is becoming more active as the day goes on, she even tried jumping to the couch! and she wants to play with our other dog, but I will be keeping her in her play yard for a little longer. I made a belly band out of an old T-shirt and velcroed it on top. she has not tried to lick at it. I feel she is comfortable now.
