I don't think the doctor at Auburn would have given you bad advice. It is one of, if not THE BEST vet school in the country. We all know you are doing everything you can. It can all be so very overwhelming, I certainly know. He is an adorable little one. I know it's heartbreaking for you. Praying for you all.

And her vets confered with the neuro at Auburn who advised continuing the steroid treatment, bc if testing him for Cerebral Hyperplasia is positive, there is nothing that can be done anyway, in their professional opinions.

It would be nice if all vets were the best, and all owners were the best... better yet all dogs were well bred and never got sick from weak immune systems, etc.... we do the best we can.

That is so true, we do the best we can. Maybe the poor baby will respond and get better. It could be something really simple. I surely hope so.

It would also be nice if all humans were bred properly and didn't get sick from their their immune systems.

Pardon me for being just a tad bit confused. She said that SHE talked to the specialist. Not that it matters. She clearly is saying she needs money, so my assumption is that she knows something more is needed. I am merely suggesting that IF that is the case, then perhaps something else needs to be done for the sake of the puppy.

I have said what I feel is best and no reason for me to continue this conversation with you. I am here merely as a voice for that puppy AND because the OP DID ask for HELP. It is NOT like I don't get it...I recently had to come up with over $17,000 for vetting in one month. If anyone thinks that came out of a fluid bank account or a tree in my backyard, think again. Now, do I think that everyone can manage as I was able to do even though it put me in serious debt? No! I am just saying that we should do what we can...I personally would not keep a dog and let it suffer just because I could not get the money to help it. Thankfully, I did not have to make a decision to surrender one of them, but I would if I had to. I simply don't believe in keeping a dog in my home and not providing what I feel is necessary.

I have said enough because she is going to do whatever she is going to do...out of my control. Prayers for Colby.

Thanks KJC, actually I wasn't looking for sympathy. The point I was trying to make is that illness and disease are part of the circle of life. You can never protect against everything, not with your dogs not with yourself. Parts of life are just in Gods hands. I will pray for this poor little dog.

For anybody who does not think I am doing everything in my power for Colby, I would just like to tell you I am doing everything possible for him. I even got a third vet involved today with his care. They have all said the same thing. If they were me they would see how the steroids do before rushing to spend what could be a substantial amount of money spent on testing just to find out what I have already been told. They also said they agree with the diagnosis and even if I pay for the MRI and get a definitive diagnosis there is nothing they can do, it is untreatable. They said that I was doing the right thing by waiting to see how he does on the steroids. Medical care is of the utmost important in my house, but so is listening to the doctors. If I could not afford a test for my daughter, but was treating her the best way I knew how and listening to the doctors would you tell me to get rid of her too? I am not a confrontational person, and I would usually not say anything, and I know you may mean well, but making me sound like I do not care about him and I am just watching him suffer could not be further from the truth. These puppies are not just dogs to us they are a part of the family, and yes me and my husband both have gone without to take care of our kids and our pups first. So please don't judge what you do not know.

I did say I was trying to raise money to take him to Auburn but after talking to several vets besides my own including Auburn I have decided to hold off on doing anything else right now with the advice of the vets, and see what the steroids will do. They have all agreed with the diagnosis. He has now seen 3 different vets and got the same diagnosis from each and my vet has also spoken to one of the vets at Auburn and they have all told me there is no treatment there is no cure. I will basically be taking him and putting him through test just to be told what everyone already suspects. I will not give him a way just because I can not afford to get testing for him to tell me what I already know. He has got a loving home here and his sister, and if there is no treatment or cure what is a new home going to do for him that I can't.

Absolutely NOT!! You have to prevent further complications by treating presenting symptoms. MY MAJOR issue with this situation is with the breeder. She has sold a pup to a couple that now find themselves up to their waists in alligators with a medical issue, and no funds to get the pup to Auburn, where their own vet said take the baby for dignosis and treatment. They have been given steroids to bridge the time it is going to take to get a definitive diagnosis. If the diagnosis is in, and it is something that is untreatable, and what you see is what you are going to have until God is moved to take this baby back, then it is a done deal. They are doing all they feel they can do, consulting with three different vets, which is quite a financial burden. I will continuie to pray for this unfortunate pup, for Him to give clarity and guidance to the owners, and for that breeder to assume a responsible role in the medical care, delivered by whoever decides what is best for the pup.

I would absolutely do the very same thing. I would not be willing to give mine away just because there is a problem. You are doing all that you can and we all know that ! You are doing absolutely all the right things. No one should judge until they walk in that person's shoes. I do hope your baby gets better with the steroids. Has there been any improvement at all?

Actually truth be known but Cornell University is the #1 Vet School in the USA. I have had many tests overnighted to them for a couple of mine.

I woke up this morning and he walked to me. That was the best feeling ever. He is up and using his pee pads now before he would lay there and pee on himself, so this is a big improvement as well. I am so thankful my baby boy is improving. Thank you for the prayers. They are working keep them coming.
